I was looking for more aviation kino after watching Sky Crawlers and Porco Rosso and stumbled across this 13 episode show that turned out to be mostly stupid but in a good way.

The premise is that Earth is constantly under threat from passing comets and so the UN forms an organisation with the goal of destroying or reducing them before they strike the surface and kill billions. It's split into two divisions, the Comet Blasters in space and the Meteor Sweepers on the ground. CBs handle most of the work and are responsible for launching nukes to break the comet up into negligible pieces, leaving the MS' destroy the fragments still posing a threat by launching missiles from land-based aircraft.

There's slightly more to it than that but what made me want to watch it was the fact they use modified BAC TSR-2s - see picrel - as their interceptors which I thought was a really niche touch.

I give it a 6/10, not great, not terrible, the plot could've been explained better towards the end but the characters are funny and likeable and I will watch the follow-up OVAs to see what direction they go in now that the main story is concluded.

>TSR-2
Didn't deserve the axe that's for sure.
Who ever was in charge of the show clearly had a thing for early Cold War aircraft because they use a jet trainer based on the Yak-28, and also eventually fly one that appears to be a combination of the cancelled North American XB-70 and XF-108 airframes.

Don't have the picrels to hand but here's some more TSR-2 from the show since you love it so much, anon.

well, Earth is constantly targeted by space debris but most of the time it does not pose a danger, it breaks down in the athmosphere or is really small. So it's not unfathomable (e.g. if some passing by interstellar body throws the Oort cloud in disarray).

That's true. I should've specified by saying that the ones in the show are large enough to end the world.

Set in the same universe?

I'll add it to the list! Seems much more grounded than this so I'm all here for it.

Do more modern/semi-futuristic aviation anime that aren't Yukikaze exist? I feel like it'd be a really popular theme but I can barely find any.
