I enjoyed the TV show, but i could not get into it despite watching it almost twice, it has a different tune than the series, I noticed more than half of the fans prefer the film, but i might be in the minority here and i really liked the TV show
>>284458795rewatching the movie made me realize I don't care about the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya any more
No, this is also something I've noticed. The main draw of the original series is that, despite how mundane the show usually was, characters all had a super exaggerated way of talking and the soundtrack was blasting almost constantly, giving the show a chaotic energy despite not much going on.Season 2 and the movie lost a lot of the energy that made the show unique, in favor of leaning into the more mundane parts of the series. A big reason is because LN trends had shifted between 2006 and 2009, so Toradora and OreImo-type "mellow slice of life" LNs were in fashion.
>>284459310Wow makes sense, worth mentioning i still enjoyed the second season, but the film lost all the vibrant tune of the TV series
>>284458795yes it's literally just you
>>284458795Yeah it's probably just you>>284459310desu anime fans despite their tastes still really see the childness comedy of anime as "lesser", and ultimately even if the property is a gag comedy the highest rated parts are gonna be when it gets serious and melancholic.Urusei Yatsura and the Beautiful Dreamer movie is another good example. In fact, even within the series, the second to last episode was a reairing of an episode chosen by a votes for top ten episode of the series, and the number one voted episode was like one of the sadder and more serious epsiodes of the series. Drama > comedy I guess, it just stirs more emotion i suppose. There's also that the scope is much bigger though. Btw I'm not excluding myself from this, I like dissaperance and beautiful dreamer a lot. But I suppose there are people with narrower tastes or tolernace that dislike the series turning away from what it was born in, not that there's anything wrong with that. Rumiko hated beautiful dreamer for example, seems she kinda disliked the show/characters taking itself too seriously, but that wasn't the general consensus among fans/anime staff
>>284458795The movie works because it's so much more dramatic by comparison. It was necessary for the story. But I don't think it's better than the TV anime like most. I also generally prefer the novels. Love at First Sight, Intuition and Theater are better to me.
I didn't care for the first season at all. The second season was better and the movie is the best part of the franchise, in terms of the anime at least. It's not just comedy vs drama either like >>284461674 is talking about. It's been a while since I watched it so unfortunately I can't point to exactly why I disliked the first season so much.
>>284458795New season when?
>>284459310I don't see it. The characters are fairly downplayed for anime. Only Haruhi talks with high energy and even then it's not that outstanding. Meanwhile the movie has probably some of the most emotional and loud Kyon.
