>rewatch an anime you used to love over a decade ago
>it's way worse than you remembered
Which one is it?
>>
>>284461865
Zero no Tsukaima
>>
>>284461865
What part of it was worse than you remembered?
>>
Didn't even rewatch the original show watched S4 and knew my tastes had moved on
>>
>>284461905
Yeah the pervert esque MC didn't age well at all. Also the tsundere type FeMC that hits the MC for everything he does.
>>
>>284462016
The writting forcing me to accept that the mc was the incarnation of Satan and at fault of his wife's death, for not forgiving her cheating on him was annoying as hell. All of that under the excuse that she was really lonely :( while sitting on her ass all day doing nothing while he worked. I suppose it's all japanese society stuff.
>>
>>284462104
It was never good. To Love Ru was better for being a fanservice show.
>>
>>284461865
This is why I absolutely hate anime that relies too heavily on spoilers to the point that it kills rewatchability; how are you supposed to enjoy the slow-burn mystery of the hell girl when you already know who the hell girl is? What are you supposed to do? I guess you could enjoy how they totally lewded her out in later seasons
>>
>>284462654
I just enjoyed the episodic stuff, even on first watch. The big reveals all felt kinda shitty to me (except in season 3 I remember liking the ending more but not liking the episodic stuff as much).
>>
>>284462439
you absolute muppet, you weren't supposed to see a literal demon attempt to coerce a seven year old girl into consigning her father and herself to eternal torment and think that either of their positions were reasonable
>>
>>284461865
Kaleido Star, I was 6 years old when my mom would record any anime that the cable had available, so I could watch on the couch after school in the evenings, fast foward 20 something years later and having forgotten the name of said anime I only found out it's name by asking some acquaintances, and when I caught up again to remember the good times..god it looked ugly to me, for some reason in my mind I pictured something a lot more amazing in visuals (also 6 year old me was a different beast althogther, of course back then it looked amazing to me)
>>
Honey and Clover
Takemoto's decisions make me very angry
>>
>>284461865
I never loved it but Steins;Gate is way worse now than I used to think it was.
>>
>>284464692
Why?
>>
>>284461865
>Jigoku shoujo
It was never good.

For me it was Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and Elfen Lied.
>>
>>284464745
It has an extra layer or cringe and poorly aged dialogue on top of the boringness I felt on my first watch.
>>
>>284461865
Solo Leveling
>>
>>284462808
There's 0 mention of the cheating, her abandoning the baby daughter so slut around, or how she did nothing all day while the dude worked his ass off.
Only flashbacks and his feelings of regret that are shown are how he was pure evil for not forgiving her, and somehow being responsible of his death
>>
>>284461865
Re: Zero
>>
>>284461865
Jigoku Shoujo is still a fine episodic show, you just have to ignore the overarching story on a rewatch (like with most episodic shows).
On another note, I hate that we don't get shows like this or Warau Salesman anymore. We need more long running episodic shows with an interesting premise rather than mediocre stories crammed into 12 episodes.
>>
>>284464878
if it wasn't mentioned then you wouldn't know to bring it up...
>>
>>284465000
Odd Taxi wasn't that long ago...
>>
>>284461865
Shaman King
It's not just worse than I remember
It's absolute shit
>>
>>284464778
How can you rip like that on jigoku shoujo and then turn around and say something like Elfen Lied
Even before my awakening to critical thinking I was able to recognize that Eflen Lied was carried entirely by its shock value in the first episode and the puppy scene
>>
I remember laughing my ass off as a teen to this and now I'm afraid of going back and finding out that it wasn't as funny as I remembered.
>>
>>284465248
read the OP again
>>

Retarded ESL can't understand subtext
>>
>>284465286
you either do the same or clarify that as a child you thought elfen lied was le heckin' edgy and cool and hell girl was gay and for girls

NTA but maybe he watched Elfen Lied when he was like 10 and Hell Girl when he was a teen/adult.

>>284465440
hivemind, I was going to point out the retarded fallacy in his posting but decided to just call him a retard instead.

Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode
Specifically the animation, it doesn't hold up nearly as well as I had hoped. Ironically, the end of season 2 segment holds up better now that I have an appreciation for Masaaki Yuasa
>>
>>284461865
kill la kill, except I rewatched it 4 years later and realized it was shit
>>
>>284461865
None of them. I've always had good taste so when I rewatch stuff it's even better.

I watched both around the same age, but I should confess I might have stretched the "love" thing from OP.
When I first watched Elfen Lied I thought it was quite okay and left a deeper impression, that's all.

Jigoku Shoujo always felt boring to me. Even back then, I never got what people saw in it. All the meaningless stories overblown for impact's sake, the character dynamics centered around a boring girl who's supposed to look cute and her henchmen acting like they know what's up... 3 fucking seasons of that.
To be fair, I've never really liked kwaidan or yuurei stories, though I've consumed such media for a pretty long time, from babby's first (Hearn) to romantic horror (pic related), and a lot of the contemporary shit, but I could never really like it.
And btw, I actually love episodic narratives, but only if they are not repetitive and boring as hell.

Yamishibai is still getting new seasons.
>>
>>284464692
S;G aged like shit. I rewatched it recently and it's legitimately a 6.5/10 anime, it just doesn't hit nearly as hard as it used to when I was younger.
>>
>>284464692
>>284468172
S;G is still good. S;G0 is the shit one for mostly SoL stretched across a whole season.
>>
>>284468172
>I rewatched it recently and it's legitimately a 6.5/10 anime
It really is, between the two the VN is a much better experience than the anime
>>
Death Note, watched it ~1 year after it aired and everybody was gushing over it. Liked it.
~10 years later rewatch. Oof.
>>
>>284468383
Maybe I'll give the VN a shot sometime, it just feels like in some ways I've dropped off being a fan of S;G or stopped being the kind of person that it appeals to.
>>
>>284462821
I watched this recently and loved it.
