>rewatch an anime you used to love over a decade ago
>it's way worse than you remembered
Which one is it?
>>
>>284461865
Zero no Tsukaima
>>
>>284461865
What part of it was worse than you remembered?
>>
Didn't even rewatch the original show watched S4 and knew my tastes had moved on
>>
>>284461905
Yeah the pervert esque MC didn't age well at all. Also the tsundere type FeMC that hits the MC for everything he does.
>>
>>284462016
The writting forcing me to accept that the mc was the incarnation of Satan and at fault of his wife's death, for not forgiving her cheating on him was annoying as hell. All of that under the excuse that she was really lonely :( while sitting on her ass all day doing nothing while he worked. I suppose it's all japanese society stuff.
>>
>>284462104
It was never good. To Love Ru was better for being a fanservice show.
>>
>>284461865
This is why I absolutely hate anime that relies too heavily on spoilers to the point that it kills rewatchability; how are you supposed to enjoy the slow-burn mystery of the hell girl when you already know who the hell girl is? What are you supposed to do? I guess you could enjoy how they totally lewded her out in later seasons
>>
>>284462654
I just enjoyed the episodic stuff, even on first watch. The big reveals all felt kinda shitty to me (except in season 3 I remember liking the ending more but not liking the episodic stuff as much).
>>
>>284462439
you absolute muppet, you weren't supposed to see a literal demon attempt to coerce a seven year old girl into consigning her father and herself to eternal torment and think that either of their positions were reasonable
>>
>>284461865
Kaleido Star, I was 6 years old when my mom would record any anime that the cable had available, so I could watch on the couch after school in the evenings, fast foward 20 something years later and having forgotten the name of said anime I only found out it's name by asking some acquaintances, and when I caught up again to remember the good times..god it looked ugly to me, for some reason in my mind I pictured something a lot more amazing in visuals (also 6 year old me was a different beast althogther, of course back then it looked amazing to me)
>>
Honey and Clover
Takemoto's decisions make me very angry
>>
>>284461865
I never loved it but Steins;Gate is way worse now than I used to think it was.
>>
>>284464692
Why?
>>
>>284461865
>Jigoku shoujo
It was never good.

For me it was Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and Elfen Lied.
>>
>>284464745
It has an extra layer or cringe and poorly aged dialogue on top of the boringness I felt on my first watch.
>>
>>284461865
Solo Leveling
>>
>>284462808
There's 0 mention of the cheating, her abandoning the baby daughter so slut around, or how she did nothing all day while the dude worked his ass off.
Only flashbacks and his feelings of regret that are shown are how he was pure evil for not forgiving her, and somehow being responsible of his death
>>
>>284461865
Re: Zero
>>
>>284461865
Jigoku Shoujo is still a fine episodic show, you just have to ignore the overarching story on a rewatch (like with most episodic shows).
On another note, I hate that we don't get shows like this or Warau Salesman anymore. We need more long running episodic shows with an interesting premise rather than mediocre stories crammed into 12 episodes.
>>
>>284464878
if it wasn't mentioned then you wouldn't know to bring it up...
>>
>>284465000
Odd Taxi wasn't that long ago...
>>
>>284461865
Shaman King
It's not just worse than I remember
It's absolute shit
>>
>>284464778
How can you rip like that on jigoku shoujo and then turn around and say something like Elfen Lied
Even before my awakening to critical thinking I was able to recognize that Eflen Lied was carried entirely by its shock value in the first episode and the puppy scene
>>
I remember laughing my ass off as a teen to this and now I'm afraid of going back and finding out that it wasn't as funny as I remembered.
>>
>>284465248
read the OP again

>>
>>284465286
you either do the same or clarify that as a child you thought elfen lied was le heckin' edgy and cool and hell girl was gay and for girls

NTA but maybe he watched Elfen Lied when he was like 10 and Hell Girl when he was a teen/adult.

Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode
Specifically the animation, it doesn't hold up nearly as well as I had hoped. Ironically, the end of season 2 segment holds up better now that I have an appreciation for Masaaki Yuasa
>>
>>284461865
kill la kill, except I rewatched it 4 years later and realized it was shit
>>
>>284461865
None of them. I've always had good taste so when I rewatch stuff it's even better.

I watched both around the same age, but I should confess I might have stretched the "love" thing from OP.
When I first watched Elfen Lied I thought it was quite okay and left a deeper impression, that's all.

Jigoku Shoujo always felt boring to me. Even back then, I never got what people saw in it. All the meaningless stories overblown for impact's sake, the character dynamics centered around a boring girl who's supposed to look cute and her henchmen acting like they know what's up... 3 fucking seasons of that.
To be fair, I've never really liked kwaidan or yuurei stories, though I've consumed such media for a pretty long time, from babby's first (Hearn) to romantic horror (pic related), and a lot of the contemporary shit, but I could never really like it.
And btw, I actually love episodic narratives, but only if they are not repetitive and boring as hell.
>>
>>284465000
Yamishibai is still getting new seasons.
>>
>>284464692
S;G aged like shit. I rewatched it recently and it's legitimately a 6.5/10 anime, it just doesn't hit nearly as hard as it used to when I was younger.
>>
>>284464692
>>284468172
S;G is still good. S;G0 is the shit one for mostly SoL stretched across a whole season.
>>
>>284468172
>I rewatched it recently and it's legitimately a 6.5/10 anime
It really is, between the two the VN is a much better experience than the anime
>>
Death Note, watched it ~1 year after it aired and everybody was gushing over it. Liked it.
~10 years later rewatch. Oof.
>>
>>284468383
Maybe I'll give the VN a shot sometime, it just feels like in some ways I've dropped off being a fan of S;G or stopped being the kind of person that it appeals to.
>>
>>284462821
I watched this recently and loved it.
>>
>>284464809
It's not called Reddit;Gate for nothing.
>>
>>284461865
O pitiful shadow lost in the darkness,
Demeaning and bringing harm to others,
A damned soul wallowing in sin...
Care to give death a try?
>>
>>284461905
Although the comedy style didn't age well, I came to appreciate Louise as a character more for not allowing Saito just get way from "cheating" on her with any other girl from the series. There are many good moments, but the begining is kind obnoxious for real for me.
>>
>>284461865
It feels like every episode of this show is the same. People exaggerate and say it about other shows but really, it's true for Hell Girl.
>>
>>284470254
>It feels like every episode of this show is the same.
But that's the best part, nobody watches an episodic show like this expecting it to differ from it's formula.
>>
>>284461905
Even if it aged poorly, its still one of the most distinctive shows of its era. The character tropes, color palettes and story beats just don't exist in action romcoms today. There are works that came after that were no doubt influenced by ZnT but there hasn't been a good spiritual successor. So if youre looking to nostalgiafag ZnT and a few other early 2000 classics will always be your go to.
>>
>>284461865
welcome to the nhk
>>
>>284471122
episodic is not the same thing as procedural, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying a comfy cop show where the cops turn out to be the bad guys
>>
>>284461865
>Rewatch logh for the 6000001th time
It´s even better
>>
>>284468331
I don't think steins;gate was ever THAT good, 0 just exposed the writer's hackery but that was always there from the beginning.
>>
>>284461865
>an anime you used to love over a decade ago
>trigun
>gungrave
>hellsing
>samurai champloo
surprisingly they're all still enjoyable but they do have some tedious episodes.
>>
you just got older, you're no longer the anime's demographic target, and you're too stressed from real life to enjoy girls going uggu and boys getting embarrassed from seeing girls' panties and bras
happens to all of us
>>
>>284471580
Yup this website may be 18+ but most anime is made around 15-year-olds
>>
the overpraised manipulative Key adaptations hit differently (in a negative way) after you’ve had the experience of seeing some properly written dramas like Halt and Catch Fire, Breaking Bad, Mr. Robot, Six Feet Under… hell even something as messy as LOST was nothing in Clannad After Story was on the level of “NOT PENNY’S BOAT”
>>
>>284461865
I watched that show recently for the first time, enjoyed it even though it didn't do nearly enough with it's concept. I enjoyed going from enraged to busting my gut at the utter retardation of most of the one off characters. People being willing to go to hell because they got bumped on the shoulder or because their dog died. Half the time I couldn't tell if they were trying to make it a comedy but they played everything completely seriously. A very strange show and not enough meta lore, I wanted more with the main cast and the characters trying to stop them. Still I don't regret it, I love anime for weird shit like this. You would never see a western show even attempt something like it.
>>
Naw, a lot of them aged really well
>>
>>284462821
You should count yourself lucky, my mom would ground me if she caught me watching cartoons of any kind other than bugs bunny. At least yours made an attempt to let you enjoy foreign things.
>>
>>284464692
It only gets better with time, a relic to a better past when people actually lived in the real world. You like it less because it shines a light on how dark the world has become.

Yamishibai is one of the best horror anime despite basically being a slideshow with zero budget. Some of the stories genuinely creeped me out.
>>
>>284464692
I thought Chaos;Head aged pretty decently because it was way more disconnected from the modern culture of the time. Being a retarded schizo is always applicable. Chaos;Child probably didn't age well.
>>
>>284472081
you're literally talking about simple nostalgia here, specifically nostalgia for cancer anime enjoyed by cancer people
>>
>>284470187
>I came to appreciate Louise as a character more for not allowing Saito just get way from "cheating" on her with any other girl from the series.
It's honestly refreshing.
>>
>>284472145
Sorry you feel that way, it's tough going with the crowd and liking popular things I get it. I'm sure there are plenty of niche anime no one has ever heard of just for you.
>>
>>284470187
It's not cheating if you get married and still don't put out. He deserved to get laid after fighting to the death to let her ass run away. She should have been stripping naked and jumping him the second he showed up.
>>
>>284471941
>or because their dog died.
The evil oba-san from the first season who had the girl's dogs kidnapped was the worst one. She could've called her parents, the cops, throw boiling water at her and run away with the dogs. Even more because the oba san couldn't even run as she was injured.

I remembered it as the coolest thing and somehow forgot it was a shoujo show
>>
>>284472472
the shoujo label for this was always superfluous. yes it is female oriented but I don't think a lot of women are watching mecha anime in the first place even back then.

I do get your point anon, but honestly, this more a writting problem than both of them not want to get freaky with each other. They both love each other but they didn't get intimate as often cause the writter (RIP) didn't want to them to do so. The moment for example, that you brough up, was "ruined" by Saito for comedic effect after they reunited. Either way, I also agree they should have being more intimate for all the series, cause although many series are romcoms, there many that have anything to do with true romantical developement.
