Kakashi knew damn well the strongest skill of a shinobi: misdirection. He was a master of bluffing and pulling the wool over his opponents' eyes. Did he really know a thousand jutsu? Maybe! Was he going to use them all right then and there? Fuck no. But he made his opponent THINK he was going to, scaring them off without needing to spend any excess chakra.

Kakashi is a character wreathed in failures. He failed to protect his friends, he failed in mentoring Team 7 (critical failure in Sasuke's case), he failed to defeat pretty much every major villain he came across. Everybody he met said how honored they were to face him and how cool and strong and known he is, before laying him out on the ground. The man is a fraud.

Unironically, I can't re-read Naruto because all the bad writing and wasted potential makes me depressed. It could have been the best Shounen ever made if the worldbuilding wasn't complete dogshit.
