Man, now I really wish Super Robot Wars V had based its "Great Mazinger for Shin Mazinger" on the Shin Zero Great. It's such a barebones generic version of Great Mazinger while this one would immediately have made it stand out (and it wouldn't look visually less impressive than Shin Z).

I finally finished watching all of Shin Mazinger. Asura’s multiple plot twists were interesting, but the final one was obvious from the halfway point. Still, it was a treat to watch. The focus on the Kurogane House and Nishikiori Tsubasa helps the story they were going for, but it makes the Photon Power Laboratory lose much of its relevance, they still got to shine in the last battle at least. I can see why both the Shin anime and Zero manga were anniversary love letters to the franchise, they both take Go Nagai’s manga version as the template to retell Mazinger’s story while integrating elements, characters or ideas from many other Manzinger/Nagai properties into the plot. Season 2 any day now
