without her death, lelouch would have sought to control the geass cult instead of purge it. Something else would have needed to happen to push him over the edge and go with the zero requiem plan. There's a couple of things you could do with her joining the black knights, like having the eleven bully her at first then slowly warm up to her. This in turn would make Lelouch think again about the fact that he's leading a rebellion that's gonna fuck over people like her if he succeeds. She could also play as a foil to C.C's enabling of Lelouch's most unhinged parts. Give her a geass like teleportation which would be very useful for Lelouch to keep her around. She would probably still need to die for the story, maybe instead of Rolo when Zero gets exposed, teleporting him away but getting shot in the process. Rolo doesn't need to die, instead he could become Nunally's brother as well, watching over her with Suzaku, which would make for a good character arc.

Because in Lelouch's mind, the ultimate purpose of the Black Knights and Zero himself is a self-destructive revenge plot against Britannia. He'd be putting a normal girl he's genuinely friends with, who has zero stake in the game right into the line of fire for absolutely no upsides in exchange for a new massive weak point.
