The Count of Monte Cristo is a classic story because it spends hundreds of pages exploring the characters backgrounds, family trees, aspirations, interpersonal conflicts, etc, and so the central revenge plot has gravitas and significance despite the fact it's fundamentally a story about spite. Your average writer putting out twenty-page chapters of "How I Got Revenge On My Highschool Bullies and Got a Harem With the Weakest Skill in Isekai" does not have the same advantages.
