The villain is more likable, more honorable, and more sympathetic. Virtually no new worldbuilding. Nothing interesting done with the old characters, not even Kohaku. Antagonist motivation is forgotten/changed from one episode to the next. Horrible powerscaling.What's there to like? It was bad in every way that it could be.

It should have rapidly progressed on to the end from there, but it was too popular for its own good, the anime production wanted more, but then it collapsed under the weight of all the filler they were adding.You're not wrong about it not being as good as the earlier Takahashi series. Inuyasha seems like it was where Takahashi just wanted to make a successful product. It was very obviously a mashup of the most popular shonen stuff that worked from Ranma, plus the shojo tragedy stuff that worked from Mermaid Saga. With a rehash of the cast of UY as an adventure party. Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo are performing the same comedy bits as Ataru, Lum, and Ten. The most surprising thing about Yashashime was that it failed even at being a formulaic copy of Inuyasha.
