Every day until Christmas, I will dump a few oneshots from Garo Magazine.Join me as we explore the wonderful world of alternative manga from the 20th century.>what the hell is Garo?Garo was an influential manga magazine published monthly from 1964 to 2002.It was founded as a platform for avant-garde, experimental, and counterculture manga creators who were rejected by mainstream publishers, and was a starting point for many artists you've probably never heard of.Some of these stories are funny and whimsical, some of them shocking and thought-provoking, and some are incomprehensible pretentious nonsense. Try to keep an open mind, and feel free to discuss manga in general as well.

>>284557519So far this dude has walked down a dark road into traffic, took a train, walked through a business district, through a random restaurant, through a party district, and now into a suburb. He's just going everywhere.

>>284557682I'm re-reading this page for the fifth time and starting to tear up. wtf, it hits so deep. Everybody need Jesus-kun and other bros in their lives.
>>284557864It's been too long.>>284557867Thanks for the dump anon. Cheers, see you tomorrow.
>>284557868It felt like too much, imo. Overwhelming instead of chill and welcoming.
>>284557909Maybe it's just fantasy and not real.
>>284555171Thanks OP. This was a nice execution of a classic surreal theme. I sometimes forget how prominent the fear of nuclear Armageddon was back in the day. Puts the apocalyptic anxieties of the current times in perspective.>>284557848Atmospheric and relatable.
>>284557867Thank you for posting, OP!
>>284557868>>284557909It makes me see two opposed but relatable perspectives at the same time and I'm not sure how to feel about that.Is he wandering the streets dissociatively and being comforted by friends when he returns, or is wandering the streets as a dissociated observer his only solace in a world filled with people he can't truly connect with? It's probably both. Can they ever understand each other? Probably not. But the night brings out and brings together those extremes.
thanks for posting these, haven't been around so this is the first one i have seen. i'll go hunt down the rest in the archive, i really like shit like this

>>284560517It was a very well 'directed' one shot. I really love Tsurita Kuniko's work, its a shame she didn't have a longer or bigger career. She could have been one of the legends like Hagio Moto.
