The Boogiepop Phantom is actually kinda cute.
>>284571376Chuuni JK Nagi is hot sex.New season when?
>>284571376The original anime better
>>284571376I will NEVER watch anime with female MC. I don't care about their personal "struggles" or their stories.
>>284572036Based. Fuck bitches.
>>284572036So you basically just watch shonen then? Because female MCs are pretty common across all non-shonen genres.
>remakeeww
>>284573410It's not a remake though.
>>284573410It's not a remake, you fucking idiot. Nearly 7 years and that misconception still exists
>>284571712Tell us why it's good then. I want to know what you think of boobiepop pantsies.
>>284573410it's not a remake
>>284571376That's not the Phantom.>>284574391Phantom has tons of atmosphere. It's also rather obtuse in a way that's not all that difficult if you actually pay attention but feels rewarding if you do. And what more could you want from a chuuni anime than having it make you feel smart for "getting it"?Also the reason the newer show isn't a remake is because Phantom isn't an adaptation. It's more like a sequel remix, since it's set after the first novel but uses a lot of stuff from later ones in different ways. Which I think is a neat way to do an adaptation.
>>284575196Yeah, the entirety of episode five I think is dedicated to explaining what happened in the first novel and what is happening in the show itself. There's a brief cameo from Spooky Electric who only shows up in the second and third novels and also some references to the sixth novel which is actually a prequel to the first one.
>>284575196Plus I don't feel like it's the kind of show you watch to feel smart because there's very little "to get". The plot is explained clearly and the themes are very apparent, people just think that they watched something pretentious because the direction and the visual style is quite subdued compared to something like a shonen or a SoL anime.
>>284574391The author and the artist of the books worked on Phantom, for one. The artist especially didn't like how Boogiepop and Others handled his designs and for good reason, they don't look like themselves at all.I fear to utter such a cursed name but Digibro did like 2-3 pretty good videos on why the modern adaptation blows compared to either the books or Phantom.
BTW it's not that urban fantasy books from that era can't be adapted well or even that an adaptation can't surpass the original work. The first Kara no Kyoukai movie is inarguably superior to the book, for example, it's fucking incredible.
>>284575389It's explained but you need to pay attention, which is a high bar for anime. The subdued character designs alone make it a lot harder to follow than the vast majority of shows, and jumping between time periods easily confuses people despite them all being clearly titled.
Boogiepop Bump
>>284571376Sex hat
Only watched Boogiepop and Others. Funny thing is that I could see the appeal of the novels from watching it but not from it itself. It had hints of cool vibes or events that made me think "Oh this must have been cool in the novel". I started to zone out a bit as some powers were barely explained and in general didn't appreciate the X-men lite turn of events. Still, not terrible just not for me.
>>284578834I heard they cut out the absolute best chapter of the first novel, the one set two years after the Manticore incident resolves where Akio revisists the school to reminisce about his affair with Naoko.
>>284579070Sounds true because I barely remember him.
