I'm a little surprised Kogan was still wandering around Japan at the time of meeting Yagyuu. Wouldn't someone like him being going to Korea and fight there? The invasion of the continent was to quench the bloodlust of the samurai and rounins that were finding themselves out of the loop without war in Japan.
