I know there's some amount of inherent bias and nostalgia here, but just... man. It's the rough first fight in the series where everybody involved is still getting their stride... and it's STILL better than anything recent in Omega. Actual fighting is occurring. You can understand what movements are happening and why. And the term "Tiger's Vessel" came up as early as the Raian match here.It's just that all of those things were Sandro Style: Formless Mystery Box bullshit where he intentionally teases and builds up mysteries while keeping everything vague enough that the answer can be whatever he wants with enough handwaving. So he was able to steal Tiger Niko's plotline to give to his new favorite pet without the average(moron) reader even noticing anything wrong.

>>284589798If you'll recall, Gensai noted that Rihito was only taught the basics of the Kaiwan style and he was integrating it with his own style. He isn't becoming a gensai clone, he's becoming a better Rihito overall. And knowing a striking martial arts is better because that's how Rihito likes to fight. Landing blows and mixing in Razor Edges as well so moving towards a more grappling based style just doesn't seem what he likes. The problem in execution is Rihito isn't in enough fights to appreciate his growth. He handled Mokichi well enough, lost a close match to Falcon, and then was in the Berserker bowl or whatever and that's been it.
Rihito suffers the issue's of being the main characters friendly rival with Sandro's writing. Really Rihito should be growing alongside Ohma and regularly hanging out with him. They're suppose to be best friends or something but Sandro shuffled Rihito off to be in a friend group with Kaneda, Himuro and Okubo and Ohma ends up friends with Raian despite Raian having zero redeeming qualities. Rihito should be getting regular fights, showing off his strengths and learning and growing alongside Ohma. Instead he jobs to a larper and wins a jobber bowl, then he fucks off afterwards. Meanwhile what's Ohma doing? He's learning fucking Principles. Do you think Rihito would still have a chance at a runback if they fought now? Ohma isn't even hanging out with Rihito right now, it's fucking Okubo of all people. Those two never even spoke to each other before as far as I'm aware.

Shen Wulong "the Connector" just shut off half his brain and did some tree-sage bullshit and just wins and walks away.
