It's hard to see their growth as legitimate bcause they don't spend all their time fighting evil team organizations and gym leaders like we've had for 20 years they just dick around and when a battle comes they're magically capable but Pokemon has always been bad at showing how someone is capable, grows to be capable and that capability pays off in the end, they've never been able to properly scale someone not these kids, not ash and his companions, not even the gym leaders, champions and elite four, they either come off as jobbers or untouchable gods, the same holds true for the legendaries we never know how truly strong they are they go from world desetroying calamities to being subdued by a fucking netgod this show is going to die when Roy and Liko start becoming romantically involved and people realize they got gay baited again

Seeing people talk about Roy made me realize something. He truly is a nothing character. During part 1, he was just a kid who became obsessed once he saw Rayquaza and dream of being able to own it. He traveled around the world but was very immature and was mad when things didn't go his way. By part 2, a majority of that immaturity went away, as he focus more about getting stronger. That doesn't seem that bad...until you look deeper.Roy's whole personality literally just revolved around his obsession with Rayquaza and getting stronger. That's literally it. Rarely does he ever given a moment that forces him to face reality. When compared to characters like Liko and Dot, he's at the very bottom of characterization. You seen moments where Liko cried, showing how frustrating things are for her as started to take pokemon battle serious and enjoy them, making her finally feel the frustration of losing despite early on where she rather lose to make someone else happy instead of herself. Then you have Dot, who was an introvert that didn't even want to leave the airship to now, willing to surf for her pokemon as a way to show that she's willing to leave her comfort zone to help others. The only thing that Roy had was singing and that's only because of his parents. The one moment that humanize him was that he sing because his parents were sailors and it help him feel connected to them. This is never referred again and Roy returned to being a plank.Even when he had finally mature, he's still the same, just obsessing over Rayquaza and getting stronger. Nothing truly change about him at all. I'm willing to give Ult a chance since he didn't get his arc yet, but I will still rank him at the bottom next Roy.
I hope we get a date episode.
