What made him feel so intimidating, untouchable and unbeatable? There is a lot of anime with powerful enemies that vastly overpower the heroes/villains, a lot of them objectively to degrees way greater than Enel to the strawhats, but nothing ever felt so overwhelmingly untouchable and beyond reach as Enel.

Enel called himself a god and he really felt like it, despite still fitting in the power system of the manga at the time.

He's probably had the best usage of Observation Haki through out the series, probably because he's one of the few people to intelligently use his Logia abilities, instead of just spamming one thing. Revived his heart, supercharged his observation, and could rain it down on you from pretty much anywhere.
