True enough art is cultural expression and as such it´s tied to the context of it´s production and fundamentally to the artist´s vision and who they are. Extrinsic knowledge can certainly re-signify how a given piece is perceived but you should always be careful to consider if those elements are actually in the piece for you to analyze or if you are projecting your own bias into it. At the end of the day all that matters in art is what´s actually there in the piece.
