The episode itself was well animated, but the artstyle was rushed and weird and they screwed up in the tone of the fight due to the artstyle choice.

Even taking your perspective on this with an open mind, it's not like the animation achieves some insane level of conveying a feeling: you have the infamous (and pretty nice, actually) "you'll never understand my pain" scene but other than that the fight is kind of straightforward, just with Looney Tunes physics. The execution isn't as good as you think it is, imo.

The aesthetic fits the fight well. Pain was just a set of corpses manipulated by chakra. It's cool that they moved in unnatural ways.
