It's just that there're no modern anime that really feel interesting, high stakes and wirth watching. The last series I followed that were like this were AoT and Summertime Rendering. I've given new series like Kagurabachi a shot but they just don't grab me at all

That is one of the earliest parts of the entire anime production process, even before the core staff are assembled and are able to start pre-production work. There's no way the production committee will announce the anime anytime soon as there will be next to nothing to show for. Odds are pre-production is still in the early stages and some key staff might only be joining the project in earnest this coming year.

Talented staff tend to have their schedules booked for several years in advance, and the animation process will also be lengthier than normal if the team is aiming for high production values. The public was never supposed to know this early that a Kagurabachi anime has been greenlit anyway.
