Its just she has the makings of a MC from a generic shoujo romcom or a reverse harem or a chickflick. Plain looking, meek, not really all that much going on with her life type girl that somehow gets the attention of the hot guy (who may have liked her to begin with) that likes her cause the plot says he does. When you take that kind of girl and make her a member of a romcom harem, she stands out for how underwhelming she really is compared to the other girls. The only thing Honoka really has over the other girls in Hima-Ten! is that Tenichi already liked her before the story started. So she would easily win him over if she just threw herself at him like Kanna did. But since shes a meek doormat, shes gonna do much of nothing long enough for one of the other girls (dohoho i wonder who?) to worm her way into Tenichi's heart and then he chooses her and then Honoka is planning their wedding and then the story ends. Hell, this is the main reason childhood friend characters lose.
>>284652364The problem with Honoka is that she's only there to make Hima a deeper character, to show her struggling to stay commited to her role as a wingman while dealing with her ever-increasing feelings for Tenichi, but that stuggle is only compelling if Honoka remains a believable contender, which means that every couple chapters we need to have an arc focused on her and pretend this plot device is a real character.
