Does anyone else think that sometimes Digimon's more dumb looking designs can get in the way of how serious a story is supposed to be? Or am I too irony poisoned?
>>
of course that gets in the way
it's also why I'm against including guns in anime (they look too realistic next to the silly looking anime characters)

>Or am I too irony poisoned?
it's this
"children's cartoons that are serious and dramatic and tragic" is the very essence of anime and manga and what made them stand out against their Western equivalents

Most of Tezuka's more serious works were changed with their art style to match their more serious tone.

I think one of the "weird" aspects of anime and manga that many westerners dislike is the dicothomy of having lighthearted moments even if the story is serious.
I almost wrote "supposed to be serious", but that would've been kinda ironic.
