I grew up watching Digimon on Fox kids and DBZ on Toonami after school. Anime is pretty much all I watch. Regular TV just doesn't interest me outside of a few titles. I'm fucking 40.

Plus it gets plenty of recognition from a smaller subset of anime fans, and that's enough for a legacy franchise like this. It was big back then because it was new and fresh. When people wonder why Haruhi doesn't have a major fanbase, you can say the same about any other old thing. It's kinda over. The novels are still going at a slow pace, but that naturally receives less attention. Something existing primarily as an LN series is one of the best passive gatekeeping filters.

I thought I downloaded the previous week by accident, then I realized what KyoAni was doing. Each week of the loop was more and more disheartening. The artistic merit wasn't worth the loss of studio time that could have been spent adapting more of the series.
