And now the season 1 has ended. What do we think about it?

I don’t care about Oguri Cap, and I’d rather see more stories about different Umas in future seasons, movies, or OVAs. I’m getting shounenshit fatigue, the series needs more SOL stuff like in seasons 1–3.

I rather have a new anime about another generation.

Cinderella Gray is a highly engaging sports story that also greatly benefits from focusing on Oguri Cap's career with minimal, if any, appearances from the horses in Seasons 1-3 (minus the student council). The narrative knows precisely what it wants to do and uses its time to best flesh out those ideas. We also enjoyed how Oguri gets increasingly invested in racing and develops in turn, becoming intense and even thoughtful both on and off the track. The anime also did a great job of making Tamamo Cross feel like a major rival and even a threat regarding the media narrative that helped give Oguri a fair shake. If another gray horse is the one winning the G1 races, then they could perhaps become the media's "Cinderella Gray" instead, leaving Oguri high and dry for fair opportunities.

At least Super Creek got some screentime.

I liked the first cour much better.
It became way too focused on the races themselves at the cost of developing the characters. Moreover the MUH AURA MUH ZONE got really repetitive. It's trying too hard to be cool.

Oguri Cap isn't really a good character; she would work better as a side character.

Even though it's certainly not free of pacing problems I'm glad that it's not really facing the problem of overly compressed story, season 2 despite how great it was IMO distinctly suffered from this (and while I thought the Teio McQueen halloween episode was cute it was also not a good use of the limited time for the story). I'm glad that an uma's career is getting a proper A to Z treatment instead of needing to fit everything important into a single seasonal block and I personally like the sound and visual delivery of the anime

I liked it but it's becoming obvious to me that the only reason why Umamusume works in general is because the stories and characters are based off actual racehorses and their careers. There's so many fantastical elements that it would be impossible to suspend disbelief if the stories and characters were completely fictional.

Like they say, real life can sometimes be more interesting than fiction
