I don't think the author is subscribing to any '-ist' or '-phobic' biases. Instead when a human character fails, it's because their vulnerabilities as a human bleed into other "sins" as you will. Vergil's love for Dante as well as his hatred for the righteous path led him to commit unspeakable evils against the God that made him. Lisa's blindness to the nuances of reality given when she died and the era she now occupies causes her to not only attack the wrong institution, but also alienate many of the people that would have followed Baba yaga in their crusade against God. Racism is probably more related to Mammon just wanting to feed into specific categories of overly macho guys just looking for an enemy to fight. I don't actually remember anyone being racist in this story so feel free to remind me of how much a retard I am. Unless you think not trusting demons is a bad position to have ala Marco.

All of this is to say that even the so-called righteous characters are not immune to the failings of the flesh and humanity as a whole. Marco might not have been wrong to distrust Imuri, but he acknowledges he failed to see his fellow man as another human and that helped cause the current situation. Likewise we know there are members of the clergy who harbor typically sinful loves and this informs their own decisions. Joshua and Dante at the forefront.
