Unironically what is the appeal? One Piece has its intriguing world and a pretty decent story, and Bleach is cool as fuck despite having a not that great story. Naruto kinda has none of that, I read the entire manga and it peaked with the Sasuke retrieval arc and after that it’s a pretty average shonen manga that goes on far too long.

>>284704338The Sasuke Retrieval Arc was the beginning of Naruto's downfall. Literally the only things of consequence in that arc are Sasuke leaving the village and the Naruto VS Sasuke fight at the end.The other fights are pure filler/padding.

People like ninjas. So even though the series really doesn't involve ninja like things despite being about ninjas it drew people in. Its manga and anime I'm pretty sure came to the US before Bleach too, and it was on the edgier side as opposed to how people saw One Piece at the time. I personally dropped it before the end of the chuunin exams.
