It's bad because it's lazy. Good fantasy works tend to put thought into worldbuilding, like attempting to explain how things function. Going 'it's like games' is just laziness and makes the world seem shallow and also often not make sense. Unironically go read/ watch more books/ shows with better writing to broaden your perspectives so you stop saying dumb shit like making retarded reductive strawmen arguments.

It's gets old fast. I used to religiously watch the anime as it aired as a kid, but I slowly lost enthusiasm with the series and stopped after diamond and pearl arc. In recent years, however watching people do hardcore nuzlocke has made me interested in the series again. The numbers and calcs are the most interesting thing to watch.

As a romcom fag, I think really it's not just about laziness and uncreativity that makes most isekais and game mechanics very dull. Love stories don't really re-invent the wheel either.

Video game mechanics and getting isekai'd is a storytelling vehicle. 'Aha, it works like that, that's familiar to me' but they have no inherit entertainment value. Having the protagonist be a refrigerator this time really adds no value either. There's an infinite number of ways to tell a story about making friends, making yourself a place in a society, climbing up the social ladder, achieving goals and finding love. Isekai adds nothing but unnecessary world building to make you feel like those themes aren't something (You) should strive for irl and be worried about

It makes the world building impossible to believe. What the fuck is a skill or exp? Is it a magical process? Is it natural? Why did this come about? Why would evolution ever do this? Is it god? If so, why?

Suspension of disbelief falls apart and I stop believing the world and the characters.

To be fair, I feel there is a huge difference in the genre. The core of romcon is, well, comedy and romance. Both are very universal human ideas. You don't really need to do anything else, you just need to do it well. Isekai is, explicitly, about interesting people going to interesting worlds. If there is nothing to explore and nothing to discover, then what is even the point of anything?

If I look at wish fullfiment that actually appeals to me, I think of something like Command and Conquer or Star Trek. I really don't see how either one benefits from including video game logic to the world, including the one that is literally a video game.
