Why the fuck are all of his stories about seething about the government for WWII? Fireball, Akira and the 2 stories he wrote for Memories (stink bomb and cannon fodder) are all seething about the japanese government for WWII.

What's wrong with criticizing the boneheaded decisions of your own country?

It seems weird that so much of his work is seething about a war that he wasn't alive during. It's like myazaki seething about WWII. I thought Otomo was alive during WWII and his older brother got killed or something. Like how the Battle Royale director was seething because his whole high school class was sent to work in a munitions factory that got bombed and he laid under rubble for days until he freed himself because the government didn't send help

What does that have to do with anything?

He was probably drawing on already established criticisms of the war

it's specifically the director. the writer wrote the book seething about something the government was doing in the 1960s which is weirder because he was born in 1969 and wrote the book after a dream in the 1990s. the book and manga both greatly expand on the back stories of the characters in the film. the sub is semi confusing and IDK if that was the version I saw or the sub or what

He would have been alive for the student movements that were happening between the end of the war and the end of the 70s, on top of the rise of motorcycle gang culture.

Well, you'd have to ask him personally to really know for sure. But after reading Barefoot Gen, if it wasn't just making shit up, I think I'd be angry at their government too.
>requisitioned all the metal pots, pans, garden tools, etc from citizens to melt down into ammo and airplanes
>the country's food output is also redirected exclusively towards the military, leaving all the women, kids, and old people back home to literally starve
>losing the war badly, but ramp up the propaganda to 11 and tell everyone total Nippon victory in just two more weeks, we swear!
>all their fittest men slaughtered in the meatgrinder, have to conscript more and more men, even teenagers and over-the-hill ojiisans against their will to send to the front lines
>forcing soldiers to kamikaze themselves even when it does nothing to turn the tide of battle
>refused to raise the white flag despite having zero chance of winning, continuing to slaughter their entire population down to the last man out of pure stubborn pride
>targeted corporal punishment and intense social shaming at anyone who speaks out against any of this

Seriously, what's to like? It sounds like absolute hell.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say it's about the Anpo treaty in 1960 that enabled the US to build military bases in Japan and its territories. Something that even Japanese people born after its inception just have to live with.

I have a WWI german helmet that's child/teenager sized

That is your imagination that wants to see that.

tell me how fireball, akira, stink bomb and cannon fodder aren't all seething about the japanese government?

There is a big difference between social criticism and seething. You sound like youtube/tiktok people who title their stuff X "slams" Y, G is "destroyed" by H, etc.
>>
>>284714341
Have you heard The Wall? Boomers in general are obsessed woth WW2 because their parents and grandparents fought on it.

You can absolutely be mad that you're suffering the consequences of something that happened before you were born.

Can you explain how that has anything to do with the rest of your post

Wrll, we are Charlie Kirk after all

Anon, Baby Boomers were born when all the people that fought in WWII came home and started breeding like crazy. Their parents are the WWII generation...

That's what I said, anon.
