Being set post-war, it contemplates the Japanese question about weapons and nukes but it never beats you over the head with a predetermined answer and lets you genuinely question things on your own with various and memorable cases, and there's neat and overarching themes about fatherhood as well. If you loved the Giant Robo OVA, you'd love Tetsujin-28, and I think it's an essential if you liked his other shows (Getter Robo Armageddon, G Gundam, Giant Robo), you probably owe it to yourself even though "ohh grampa robot from the 50s". It's a good show!
