So I started watching the anime to go along with the storytime, and it has new characters that weren't in the first volume? Is it fine to watch it concurrent or does it change up volume orders or the like

S2 sticks a bit more closely to the manga in that regard, but things are already shuffled at that point. So not the greatest for a concurrent watch.

Since a boat displaces its own weight in water it's automatically perfectly balanced, and they can let a little extra water in the top one to make it want to rotate on its own. It's also way faster, one rotation is like 5 minutes instead of 30.The real downside is mostly just complexity of construction and maintenance, locks are ancient technology, easy to construct and there's very little that can go wrong.
