Can anyone explain to me how yaoi and yuri even have followings? The way anime and manga handle gay romance is somehow even worse than the how they handle straight romance.
>>284739297Most of those aren't even yuri
>I only know yuri and yaoi from this list which only has 4 yuri anime and zero yaoi.
I know other retards will show up, so I will just get this out first, this is what yuri stands looked two years ago, this is what they look now, yuri was close to nonexistent 5 years ago, it's not anymore, slowly we are going to take over, yaoi already took your shonen away from you and yuri is going to take your romances. You have been warned.
>>284739666Lol, lmaoShow the 12-24 bookcases full of bl next to it now
>>284739829There is a full floor, but it's fine, BL has a hundred years advantage and BL is Yuri's onichan, as a matter of fact the word yuri as a descriptor of enjoyers of girl x girl was born from BL magazines and the first yuri authors were BL authors.
>>284739297>watch a non-romance anime>an anime that doesn't even have romantic subplots, let alone subtext>wtf this romance sucksI'd be happy to explain to you if you could first prove to me you haven't had a concussion recently.
>>284739297>Can anyone explain to me how yaoi and yuri even have followings?blame US
>>284739297I like the way characters in yuri and yaoi are over-the-top emotional, causing utter chaos in their wake over minor issues. It makes more entertainment as a reader. I don't care if the "romance" isn't "realistic" or whatever the fuck.
>>284739297Anime is inclusive, chud. We welcome LGBTQ here.
>>284739297>watch yuri romance: the couple gets together by the end of the first season and the story continues after that >watch straight romance: it takes 50 episodes for the couple to kiss and the story ends soon after thatWhy would I watch straight romance, especially the ones marketed to guys like myself these days instead?
>>284739297>why is eroticism, taboo, tension, secret relationships popular
>>284742759>the story continues after thatYes, by sidelining them and shoving their relationship into the background and shifting the focus to side characters or other bullshit instead
>>284742759>the story continues after thatAnd usually goes to shit. The reason we don't see the actual relationship in most romance anime/manga is because it's not as exciting as the build-up to it. As soon as the people is together, the audience usually loses interest, because that's not what they came for
>>284742893In some series, but not in most. Watanare would be the one I posted. I also personally don't think that shifting focus to a side couple is that big of a deal. I wish more straight series featured them as foils for the main leads, to be honest.
>>284742965Like 90% of romance stories have a side couple that serves as a foil to the main couple, it's called the "beta couple"
>>284742958>usually goes to shitIn your opinion maybe (which is fine), but there are plenty of yuri works that handle the relationship well once they are together. Can you name one you thought did it poorly?>>284743001Have you read most of the modern harem/romcom genres?
>>284742759Because I'm straight man and I'm not a lesbian woman.
>>284743035What do you do once they're together? You can't show sex. Going on dates and doing stuff together is just expected for a romantic relationship.Once the couple gets together and the "chase" is gone, their relationship becomes indistinguishable from that of close friends. So basically, there's no point in it being a romantic relationship at that point, you could have the exact same character dynamic with a pair of friends.
>>284742759Because that's stuff actually made to appeal to you. Yuri isn't made for men, it's made for lesbian women.
>>284743264A character doesn't need to be literally me for me to understand them.>>284743286>you can't show sexYuri manga frequently show the girls having sex. But even if you ignore sex, you can still show them doing lewd things together that don't rise to level of sex like kissing and hand holding. I think a fireworks date where they kiss at the end is more satisfying than the cliche "confession gets drowned out by the fireworks".
>>284743307>The audience of the only yuri magazine is 70% men>Those 30% women are probably biggee than japan whole lesbian community
>>284743307>yuri isn't made for men, it's made for lesbian womenYuri published in seinen/shounen magazines is almost certainly made for a male or mixed demographic. The few yuri stories in shoujo/josei magazines have a majority straight female audience as well.
>>284739297>Can anyone explain to me how yaoi and yuri even have followings? They're cute, simple as.
>romance is supposed to be about the chaseI also don't understand this perspective when it comes to the current crop of romances that are popular. These series are almost devoid of any chase from the male perspective. Instead, a lot of these types of shows will have the girl be the one who falls in love with guy first, then peruse him, and finally initiate the relationship. A more apt description seems to be it's less about the chase and more about the thrill of being chased.
>>284739297I can already tell this is going to be nothing but shit opinions on ANY romance.
>>284743748Who chases who is not important
