There are a trillion and one anime set in high school. So why are there so few anime set in college? The only one I know of is pic related. I'm not asking for recs, I genuinely want to know why this setting is so rare. Don't japs go to college?

Newfag, please. Watch more anime.

Kids in college have a lot more sex than in high school and sex is very icky.
>>
>>284772653
Because college is just a shittier highschool, they even have the same events.
>>
>>284772740
I have been here since 2011. I may be slightly drunk but off the top of my head the Tatami Galaxy is the only college setting I can think of.

>Don't japs go to college?
They do but it's different. Also if you actually understood Japan you'd know their lives right after highschool become actual dogshit most of the time. Hence the focus on highschool, since it's the last time they're even close to free and excited to be alive.

It's been a while since I watched S;G, but wasn't it post-college?
>>
>>284772901
Even if they're college students, it's not college setting by a long shot.
>>
>>284772936
Nope, they're college students.
>>
>>284772901
i don't think this one was college but would it matter when the characters behave like middle schoolers?
>>
First one that comes to mind is HenZemi, have fun.
>>
>>284772653
Not so thinly veiled rec thread but I don't care.
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer
Golden Time
Nodame Cantabile
Run with the Wind
I like the setting but I don't think there's often a reason not to have them be either high school students or working adults.

I'm seeing more college stuffs lately desu, especially romcom.
Picrel is on Shonen Jump so it seems Jap publishers are noticing the demographic shift.
>>
>>284772653
All of them go to college.
>>

Watch Dekin no Mogura.
>>
Grand blue, the drinking manga.
>>
The short answer is that many series are marketed to teenagers in school or young adults who can still enjoy those series. Also japs/jap otaku have no issue with wanting to fuck teenagers in uniform and there's a bit of a high school fixation that doesn't exist for college.

didnt some retards have a melty on this manga, because the author is a cuck

>>
Isn't Grand Blue just high school romcom bullshit in college setting (ie added scenes of nude men drinking)
>>
>>284773844
Yes but also fucking hilarious.
>>
>>284772653
A classic.

The entire second season takes place at the university, with the main characters as college students spending almost all their time at the university.

Interestingly, it has nothing to do with Christmas, even though that girl spends every episode dressed up as Santa.

The last bit of K-On is at College.

It was depressing the club broke up and everyone had to move on.

High school life is a shared experience for many Japanese people. While college life varies depending on university, college and the subject studied, often requiring explanation.

Because "high school age" stories are always set in high school. "College age" stories are split between college settings and 'young adult entering the workforce' stories (or failing to, in the case of stuff like Welcome to the NHK).

middle/High school is universal experience , College isnt.
That fact alone alienates lots of potential viewers
>>
>>284778044
In addition, manga artists typically went to art schools of some kind, which is a fairly different experience from "generic college". Everyone went to high school and know what that was like.

OP is a fag, there's like a hundred college anime, hell /a/ just watched 2 of them for Christmas
>>
I hated college almost as much as high school. The wagie world is the place to be.
>>
>>284772653
>So why are there so few anime set in college?
Because of nip concept of "seishun" (idolization of youth). In college age people are generally seen as out of that "seishun" period so you can't really tap into that collective autismo.
>>
>>284772988
>the characters behave like middle schoolers
All of them are way too smart to be middle schoolers.
>>
>>284772653
I kind of agree with you, OP, but you're still a newfag

This. S;G is shallow as a puddle, nothing more than a cheap thriller ride.
>>
there are a lot of college series, but they rarely seem to take place at the college itself
