It's so uninspiring and generic.

anal with Momo

It's shounen, what do you expect?
>>
>>284792105
battle shounen used to have standards
Something like Yuu Yuu Hakusho and Seven Deadly Sins are fun, I get why they are popular.
But Demon Slayer and Hero Academia just so bland they they might as well be AI generated
>>
Nobody cares.
>>
>>284791967
But enough about JJK
>>
>>284792227
I get that's appeal as well, I don't get why it grouped with 2 of those
>>
>>284792105
Shounen as a label means nothing
>>
My biggest problem with MHA is how it pretends to the superhero genre with the battle shonen genre, but it's really just a battle shonen wearing a superhero skin.
>>
>>284792202
>Something like Yuu Yuu Hakusho and Seven Deadly Sins
Seven Deadly Frames doesn't deserve to be spoken in the same breath as YYH. Sins' first season was good, but it was all downhill from there. Demon Slayer and Hero Academia are both better by a longshot.
>>
>>284792202
>battle shounen used to have standards
>Seven Deadly Sins
>>
>>284792202
Did you seriously unironically put Seven Deadly Sins in 'good'? That's enough to disregard your point completely
>>
>>284792492
has fan service which is more fun than anything Demon and Hero Aca
>>
>>284792202
>battle shounen used to have standards
I'm legitimately wondering what exactly is your specific definition of standards? Battle shounen hasn't changed particularly drastically in decades. Only one's personal opinions of them.
>>
>>284792538
Oh okay so you're not actually discussing in anything resembling good faith. Cool cool. I'll just say you have shit taste and move on.
>>
>>284792202
>battle shounen used to have standards
>Seven Deadly Sins
>>

Good bait

Compare modern battle shonen to Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, One Piece, and Naruto
>>
>>284792736
>naruto
>dragon ball
Most new battle shonen are better than those shitty ones
>>
>>284792736
What specific differences are you seeing? All of them are about fighting with lots of characters

I also think objectively as a whole story Dragon Ball is not very good, it just has the best action paneling.
>>
>>284792897
For one, characters in nu-battle shonen barely fight at all. Only the main characters do anything, everyone is a jobber that's only there to pad the runtime
>>
>>284792814
No battle shonen after them has had anywhere near the same cultural impact.
>>
>>284792202
>Yuu Yuu Hakusho
was never super popular

>Seven Deadly Sins
was only moderately popular and it fucking sucks, you have horrible taste, Kimetsu no Yaiba is honestly much better than Nantsu no Taizai
>>
>>284792952
So, just like Dragon Ball? Only the anime with its fillers paid atention to other fights. Half of best Dragon Ball fights are anime-only. Piccolo vs C17 being the #1 example. It doesn't exist in the manga.
>>
>>284792952
I'M SORRY AND THAT'S DIFFERENT FROM THE PAST HOW EXACTLY?

People have been complaining about that shit since Naruto. Since even before Naruto.
>>
>>284793127
Nigga what the fuck are you somoking? Naruto, for all its flaws and how it went to absolute shit later on, is one of the best in the genre when it comes to secondary characters' fights and shits on both old and new battle shounens.
>>
>>284793079
>Yuu Yuu Hakusho
>was never super popular
Well now, it wasn't 'top echelon of shounen but it was popular enough that it led to the contract Togashi has now with WSJ where they just let him be on hiatus forever. I mean, it sold better than Yu-Gi-Oh, and that was a monster even before the card game
>>
>>284793159
Naruto is quite literally the poster child for having secondary characters that become wasted and are jobbers to pad the runtime. It is the defining manga of this problem. You are either underage or retarded. Probably both.

There is literally a storytime going on right now and everybody is rightfully pointing out how little the so-called major secondary characters do

>Yuu Yuu Hakusho was never super popular
>Yu Yu Hakusho has sold over 50 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series ever, a massive success for Yoshihiro Togashi's classic Shonen Jump title that rivaled Dragon Ball Z in popularity during its peak in the 1990s, despite only having 19 volumes.
BEGONE, ZOOMER SCUM! This was the golden trio before the big three.
>>
>>284793207
>There is literally a storytime going on right now and everybody is rightfully pointing out how little the so-called major secondary characters do
That's in second part of the manga, cretin. When Kishimoto was already fucking done with the series and was intentionally making it as shit as possible to spite WSJ editors who forced him to not finish the story. Trying to use volume 40 as an argument here only shows off how microscopic your braion is. Look only at pre-TS and maaybe early parts of post-TS Naruto for accurate picture of how the manga was supposed to be.
>>
>>284793177
>>284793208
Yeah it was quite popular but not on the scale of KnY or BnHA, despite being way better than either of those. That's what I meant. It's also ancient and has barely any relevance outside of Japan after its end. Slam Dunk is mentioned far more nowadays than YYH for example.
>>
>>284793374
Even the Sasuke Retrieval Arc has this problem, and that was Part 1. The only fight that matters in that arc is Naruto VS Sasuke. The rest is side characters fighting mooks that were, by Kishi's own admission, created JUST to give them someone to fight.
>>
>>284793511
The fight vs Kimimaro was amazing, let's not kid ourselves. Most other battle shounens don't have anythign coming close to it.
>>
>>284793431
>It's also ancient and has barely any relevance outside of Japan after its end. Slam Dunk is mentioned far more nowadays than YYH for example.
Personally, I've heard about it way more than Slam Dunk here in the US over the years since a bunch of old gen Z and young millennials saw it on Toonami, but fair enough. I agree it never reached the popularity level of the former two, unfortunately.
>>
>>284793557
Lee's part was good, but you could tell the end was rushed when the Sand Siblings show up to save Lee/Shikamaru/Kiba

At least Choji and Neji were allowed to "win" their fights
>>
>>284793630
Hmm, maybe I'm biased by anecdotal experiences then. I legit haven't seen anyone pick up YYH... ever, in last 15 years, I only see it mentioned on /a/ but only in the context of old times and not something currently read. Meanwhile I saw many people discuss or pick up Slam Dunk over the years and even one of my friends read it randomly two months ago despite otherwise just chasing random ongoing series.
>>
>>284792553
>what exactly is your specific definition of standards
"The first several battle shounen I read" = groundbreaking and cool
"All the battle shounen I found out about later" = derivative slop
>>
>>284791967
left is modern shounen, not surprised it got popular
right is homo energy
>>
>>284791967
At least they are not as bad as Dandadan.
>>
>>284794138
Dandandan has a rape attempt in first episode, which makes it more based than most battle shounen
>>
>>284791967
People just like when the little boy makes the boom boom happen.
Bigger boom boom = more popular with normies.
Take a look at normieslop.
Just need more boom boom to keep normie attention spans.
>>
>>284795042
I just don't get what people get out of Hero Academia beyond pretty colors.
I watched like 2.5 seasons of it to understand the appeal.
Characters are so cardboard that I actually rooted for the bid mafia.
>>
>>284795103
Battle shonen always make this mistake. They have lots of characters but only a few of them really do anything or get developed.
>>
>>284791967
They're both kinda mid.
KnY was elevated by le maymay animation.
MhA was elevated by...porn and ships?
>>
>>284795275
No, by pretending to be capeshit. But it has nothing in common with capeshit, it's just another battle shonen.
>>
>>284796275
That's just the themes. Naruto pretends to be about ninja, etc.
>>
>>284796405
Ninjas being wizards predates Naruto
>>
>>284796275
>>284796405
The common theme here, is that beneath their gimmicks, all shonen are the exact same shit underneath, just wearing different clothes.
>>
>>284796609
Naruto is nothing like Dragon Ball which is nothing like One Piece which is nothing like Bleach which is nothing like MHA, and so on
>>
>>284796681
Yeah, sure, okay.
In your head they don't have the exact same plot structure.
>>
>>284796920
Plot structure doesn't mean anything. Even different genres can have similar plot structure.

The themes and messages are different.
