>>284800525yeah, Oreki and Chitanda nearly had a falling out when they got mixed signals about how they should be reacting to Chitanda's actual situation and it's the most interesting the series was for a while, this whole thing is basicaly kids learning they have to be couragous and actually put themselves out there to obtain what they want, if Oreki wants Chitanda he has to actually make it clear, if database guy want to actually get over his cowardness at fear of not being good enough for anyone be it his friend, his girlfriend or himself he has to actually try despite how scary, frustrating and painful failing is despite trying your best.I love the Eri arc just for how easily Oreki's sister tore her apart for messing with her brother like that even through she's no different than he and his group, too scared to go at something earnestly because she fears failure and rejection too much, as do all youngsters do. If you never get over it as a youngster you're never gonna get over it as an adult

The amazing thing about Hyouka is the author writes slower than the Haurhi author does.
>>284799893that's very much not the reason why it's good. if pretty animation could save an anime then Free would've gotten the same praise.what really nails this in is one episode of Hyouka that was anime original, the pool episode. it had the same basic premise, all the pretty animation, plus extra gratuitous fanservice. but that episode sucked. the difference between it and the rest of the show is night and day. the reason being it was written by some schmuck at the studio and the original story was written by a genius.that's ultimately what storytelling, and art in general comes down to. a genius can make an interesting story even about some kids solving mundane mysteries in everyday life, meanwhile someone with no talent can't even make a decent story about superheroes that can blow up planets.

Was one of the few shows I rewatched during the pandemic, one of my favorites definitely. At the time I also discovered that someone had translated the novels that were available at the time, and that when the anime aired were not translated. So if you are very much into Hyouka and want some more go look for that.
