Possibly the best example is that in the novel, the reason why Mie kills herself at the end of the duel in the tournament is because she's still in love with Irako and not because she's disgusted at seeing Gennosuke act as a mere puppet. Norio Nanjo's oeuvre seems honestly very good. Real shame his books are never gonna be translated and that most of the 30+ TV/movie adaptations of his work are essentially lost media at this point. I don’t think the man has ever written a happy story in his entire life, though.
