Has any other series tricked so many people into thinking it has profound themes like this one?>Author has repeatedly said there's no deep meaning to any of it.>It's just a cool action series with nice animations and hot girls
>>284828616>Author has repeatedly said there's no deep meaning to any of it.No he didn't.>profoundWhat do you think this word means?
It's one of those things where the fanbase gets way too attached to it at a vulnerable/impressionable age and they can't shed their attachment to it due to either sunk cost fallacy or plain idiocy and they keep wasting their time on this garbage its own creator has renounced and shamelessly uses as a money plug to profit off of those morons. All those people would be better served actually creating things based on what other works made them feel and imbued them with but them being NPC consoomers, that was never going to happen. It's all a pile of shit. Also, Eva was the first anime that the people ashamed to watch anime but yet still gravitating to it for whatever reason latched on to and this has directly led to the abudance of morons who hate anime, want it to be Hollywood shoegazing pozzslop, and will not leave it alone until shit like Lazarus, Lycoris Recoil and Sanda are the norm which they are.
Genuinely all this amounts to is a philosophical black hole It tackles lots of deep stuff but when you actually follow them to their conclusions it just drops off into vague depression wank with no point to any of it
>>284828677>NPC consoomers, idiocy, pozzslop, sunk cost, pile of shit, morons, garbage
>>284828616Recently it was cyberpunk edgerunner
>>284828717Yes, I used those words and they perfectly described what I meant to say and you and I know what they mean. There is no problem with me doing so and you pointing them out in this woman-brained passive aggressive manner is inconsequential and embarrassing.
>>284828717>Do you enjoy living like that?>Always being mad?At this point I kinda do tbqh.
>>284828734Oh yeah I forgot about that It's got the exact same deal too huh, everyone thought it was so genius and deep but when I watched it all I could think was that everything should be happening differently and characters seemed to be arbitrarily not taking certain actions because the plot needed them to be tragic instead And then after the dust settled all anyone cared about was pretty girls
Okay, what are some anime that are actually meaningful/deep and not forced tragic or whatever
>>284828834None exist.
>>284828616That was just in reference to some of the Christian imagery. He did not say that about the show as a whole
>>284828834Not telling >>284828852Also this
>>284828884Some redditor archetype guy I know at work, walking talking breathing 100 percent french press coffee maker vape smoking fedora wearing facial hair motherfucker when someone brings up Evanjellyion>Yeah Its a very emotionally intelligent anime n shit
>>284828710This is why for me, it's suffering/depression porn with happy endings.
Did op really think that author meant that literally? And it wasn't even the author who said that wtf. If you actually watched the show, there's like a message given to the viewer, you don't even need to pay attention to the show that much to get that message.
>>284828616Anno is just a troll and he hates himself so he down talks his own work even though it's one of the great masterpieces of the 20th century
>>284828616>profound themesIt's just a severly depressed guy pouring all of his emotions into a show and expressing his mental state in it. If you judge Eva as a conventional anime it's actually not that good and has a ton of issues in a lot of aspects. It just comes down to you being able to relate with it. If you do it's one of the best things ever, otherwise it's a confusing mess that tries too hard to be deep and intellectual and all of its fans insisting it's you who's just unable to get it will only make you hate it more. There's nothing more to it. Everyone should watch it at some point, during which they will likely not get it at all, and then come back to it when they're in a terrible mental state (the kind that's more than just temporary sadness).
>>284829537>a ton of issues in a lot of aspectslike what?
>>284829646If you watched it expecting a normal mecha show than many of the plotlines not really getting resolved, so much stuff happening without a clear explanation and how the last two episodes can feel totally unrelated to most of everything else will feel confusing. I mean, you obviously know what a first time watcher getting into the show might find fault with. The show doesn't do a great job explaining much of the lore or giving the story a satisfying ending in a way expected of a story that starts as giant robots fighting angels (if you get it the ending is very satisfying, but if you don't, none of it makes any sense and you're left to check if there is another episode to explain what just happened). Yes, if you check out more eva media you will eventually get a much better picture of the world, the timeline and all those things the anime doesn't go much into, but if you just watch the original 26 episodes (especially if they don't contain 21'-24') you will almost certainly be confused about a ton of stuff. I know that all of these things are secondary and that what makes the show great doesn't necessitate you to have a complete understanding of these elements that seems pretty unimportant compared the things it makes you feel, but, if you can't connect with it at all, those things also being unresolved will only add to you feeling like you don't get it at all.
>>284830157i agree and i think i misunderstood what you meant originally
>>284830157Some questions I remember having watching the show for the first time were things like what is the first impact? What exactly happened during the second? What do they mean by lilith/the black moon and adam/the white moon? What's up with the angels? Why did they stop giving the angels names at some point? What are the conditions for becoming an eva pilot? What exactly is Seele? What's up with the dead sea scrolls? The whole plotline with Kaji felt confusing, from what I can remember watching it for the first time years ago. There are so many unresolved things I didn't even bother listing. I literally just thought of the first things that came to mind and the list of questions I remember having was even longer (to the point that I kind of gave up understanding most of it when I watched the show as a kid for the first time).
