And yet, he only ever wallows in depression in the last act, and even then he is able to move past it and find a reason to keep living by the end. Doesn't sound very nihilistic to me. Aki, who starts off as an edgelord, is also someone who has experienced trauma, so much so that he sacrifices years of his life to go on a suicide mission for revenge, but by the end of his arc is willing to give up on his suicide mission in order to spend the rest of his days with the people he cares about. The main antagonist holds the belief that life would be better without any and all inconveniences, instead preferring everything to be entirely tame and uneventful, and gets rightfully btfo for having such a shit opinion. Without sadness there can be no happiness. So when life gets you down, you have to appreciate the good things in life. Read the manga again.

You don't worry about how Freddy Kruger is psychologically effected by the fact that he was conceived when his mother was locked in a room with 100 maniacs and raped. You care about the kills, the gore, and how cool it looks.
