Why do people have such a hard time understanding Eva? There is some additional exposition in End of Eva but even the last two episodes basically spell out what's happening. The thing with Eva though is that there's quite a lot of casual dialogue that actually matters. If you're not paying attention (which can happen normally, but I imagine people watching while playing with their phones may be a factor too) you may miss important stuff.

Yeah, the show never even mentions the eggs and why there's a conflict between Adam's offspring and Lilith's, because none of that has any relevance to the characters. Knowing this all started because some aliens sling around cosmic seed pods doesn't really matter for whether or not Shinji can accept himself.But there's a demand to know anyway. The industry has long commercialized that aspect of things with databooks really being the most clear cut example. Fans will pay for a sheet of paper that says a fictional character has a blood type...and of course the blood type personality association stuff means that it's not even truly "made up" and is another aspect of the database from which characters are constructed.
