And honestly I'm not that into ongoing shoujo manga to know whether that's the case now or not. But women write shonen and seinen manga as well, even with female main characters, and they tend to not be as limited as what people think about modern shoujo manga. So it seems to be more an issue with the expectations of shoujo manga itself than anything to do with having a female writer or female main character.
