What killed anime originals? It's not even that there are fewer and fewer shows each season, it's that they're objectively worse than 10 years ago. Either 2010s were an anomaly or something has happened to the industry during last 5 or so years.

2013 was only 13 years ago...
>>
yeah, it was me. sorry, I won't do it again
>>
Anime got popular.
>>
God, shut the fuck up shounenteen. You make these threads every day.
>>
>they're objectively
According to your gay taste?
>>
I just think boomers were much better at making art than the following generations. This may have been because most of them were so fucking retarded, the good ones were also very tasteful. We may see a similar thing with zoomers.
>>
>>285163784
what originals were so much better 10 years ago?
all originals were pretty mediocre, beside some movies and even rarely OVAs, but those were mostly uplifted by visuals not the story
>>
>>285164116
Boomers are still the ones making anime.
I will fucking kill you.
>>
>>285164173
You can't keep making great art. The great boomer artists mostly said their piece, the issue is the following generations haven't produced artists of the same caliber.
>>
>>285164161
All of them, most of them are still posted about this day, Madoka even has a yearly rewatch. The question is, what anime originals can you name from past 5 years? Probably none
>>
>>285163784
Too many godawful and fumbled endings. Originals are great because nobody knows what's happening next. Problem is that most of the time there's fucking nothing happening next and we don't figure that out until the credits roll on the last episode.
>>
>>285163784
The writing
>>
>>285164201
Sonny Boy and Apocalypse Hotel are good. The issue is the industry dove deep into CGDCT and iyashikei ocean, so you don't get shows like Madoka anymore.
>>
>>285164201
>uhhh all of them!
Great answer, bot. You ignored the 500 that aren't posted about to this day.
>>
>>285164256
Gems are always surrounded by crap but now there are no gems, only less shit
>>
>>285164201
I can think of at least 5 I enjoyed in that time frame. You're just a retard
>>
>>285163784
You were younger. Now you're older and psyop'd yourself into thinking you had to be overly critical and angry about everything.
>>
>>285164690
Evangelion was a anime original, it has nothing to do with age
>>
>>285164811
And evangelion sucks, and is right up there with dragonball z for overrated shit normalfags who don't like anime like. Is that really your argument for this tired, overused "old good new bad" thread?
>>
>And evangelion sucks
>>
>>285163784
If your director is so good, what's stopping him from making it into the WN/LN/manga/webcomic industry and writing an original plot there? mm?
>>
>>285165653
The way LNs and manga are structured, they're designed to sell as long as possible, to churn as many volumes as possible. People might be unaware but Haruhi is still being published so if you make a anime about a LN it will never have a definitive ending, it's just an advertisement and not a self contained story
>>
>>285163843
Dang it, anon, I thought we had talked about this. The only one allowed to destroy anime is Kyoani.
>>
Lmao at the Leftoid Zoomers and Gen Alpha thinking 2020 Anime is better than 2000s and 2010s.
>>
Japan making good originals has always been extremely rare.
They have terrible terrible scriptwriter.
>>
>>285166124
>WN/webcomic (ONE)
You can make any of those without that or even an editor.
>>
>>285164811
Evangelion is ass. Pretentious westoid faggotry that ran out of budget before it ended
>>
>>285166313
I grew up with 00's and 10's anime. I love 00's anime but it's objectively worse. Anime back then was drawn out with loads of still frames, there wasn't nearly as much of movement on screen. The colors were a lot flatter too and the cgi was abhorrent. Then you had all the filler episodes, deviating from the source altogether, retarded color palletes, etc.
>>
>>285166473
At least it had a ending. 99% of stories in anime don't fucking have one anymore!
>>
Great, another retard who doesn't even look into whats airing making grand claims.
>>
>>285163784
>What killed anime originals?
like all creative pursuits - capitalism and pursuit of profit.

you might have to watch [C] to understand
>>
>>285166882
But there isn't any airing right now
>>
>>285164256
Not him but Sora no Woto and Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer all came out around the same time, Gargantia for its flaws was fun and pretty, Shirobako is close to its 10th, there were a lot of anime being made seemingly for the straight-to-DVD/BD market that would be mobile game tie-ins now
>>
>>285167166
Hell, even Gainax is dead now
>>
>>285166582
No you don't. On the contrary, animation hasn't improved at all. The total amount of good has largely remained the same while the amount of bad has only grown subdivided into more throwaway seasonals, but the quality of layouts has absolutely declined. The post-processing that makes modern colors less "flat" (than specifically early 00s, as late 00s and 10s outgrew that problem) also makes them much more dull and homogenous because there's zero consideration for the light sources in the genga and or color palette in base tones, only copying what's on the design doc. The CGI was so poor because it was so nonexistent.

Getting back on topic, a big distinction between old originals and new originals is that old ones were more often than not 2 cours, often got renewals after, and were even sometimes a full 4 cours. Now, sponsors simply aren't willing to take the financial risk on originals more than 1 cour. Why is it more anime is produced than ever but all the extra throughput is directed to narou-kei slop? Much like filler, those lengths are a sign of abundance, not decadence. Likewise, some of the best anime were produced thanks to directorial fiat, such as the GitS movie and SAC, Karekano, and Excel Saga. Imagine unironically defending moving manga.
>>
>>285167099
That it isn't true though.
>>
>>285167241
That studio has been fukken dead for a decade now.
>>
>>285164201
>>285164256
I recently watched Kurumi and Kaleido Star and was taken aback simply by how rich with character they are compared to modern offerings. There's a hidden treasure trove in decades past; just because people don't talk about them doesn't mean they don't deserve the credit.

>>285166882
Okay, so let's look at what originals are airing right now then
>Hoppe-chan
>GelPiyo
>SI-VIS
Now this is a good selection!

>>
>b-but the anime ogs are 1 season I prefer 2 >LNs are bad for having too many vols. btw
All this cope and goalposting from director wankers is just sad. Godly adaptations of existing sources like Frieren and Demon Slayer is the future.
>>
>>285167588
And you have? It would be great if I could find the first two subbed anywhere on the internet. SI-VIS meanwhile is dogshit yes.

There is CGI from 20 years ago that looks equivalent or even better than what comes out nowadays. The only difference is the absolute worst and most primitive CGI no longer exists, but the baseline has changed very little.
>>
>>285167441
Even when it was near-dead it gave us Houkago no Pleiades, which was another great original from around ten years ago. This year we just got Turkey and another PA Works fever dream.

Imagine wanting to make an original anime movie, but they're only funding adaptations, so you get an entire ongoing manga published just so you can then adapt it into a movie.

What a ridiculous idea.

Was Blood+ a manga or an anime first? Man what a weird show
>>
>>285163784
More like why can't they find or hire good writers for a long-running series?

For example, Urobuchi made a decent enough foundation out of Psycho-Pass but as with all things he writes, he's better at writing one-offs instead of the long-running cashcow series that Production IG wanted for it, so we're basically stuck with mediocre writing for subsequent seasons.
>>
>>285163784
Quality of art depends on the state culture and civilization is in. Basically everything has been noticeably worse in the latter half of 10s and now in 20s. Jewllywood movies and TV, gaymes, and yes even anime and manga too. It will be blatant in hindsight but most "fans" living through it lack the self-awareness to see it.
>>
>>285163784
Lack of Butcher. Half the good originals were him.

I can't find any site anymore that lists originals, I swear anilist or anichart used to let you filter and just see the originals for a season but I cant do it anymore.

Relative will probably be mid 70's when the first mecha boom happened.

Here's a list of anime original series from 2020-2025 (with at least 6 full-length episodes). Sequels or spinoffs within existing franchises (e.g. SSSS.Dynazenon) are excluded, regardless of whether those franchises are anime original.

TL;DR: Reports of the death of original anime have been greatly exaggerated.
