Though I think Maze may have more suffering going on in the world, the dragon hatchling ends up focused on some more personal suffering. Or later on when he fights a hero who kills people to let off stress and teams up with someone who's family was killed by him and then convicted of the crime because the hero didn't like the guy trying to teach him to be a good person. Maze on the other hand mostly sticks to a more cutesy style and avoids most of the suffering of the devastating war going on. Though I think Maze might have had more implied rape, I don't really remember, it has been a while.
