The Pretty Sammy OVAs in 1995 were really funny. The second episode she's literally taking on Microsoft and Bill Gates. And the Pretty Sammy TV 1996 series is fun as well.I do not recommend the Shin Tenchi Muyo 1997 series unless you really want more. That's all I've seen so I can't make any more suggestions.For movies, Tenchi Muyo in Love is solid as is Manatsu no Eve. Don't watch the 1999 movie.

Hadn't watched anything Tenchi in over 10 years and recently noticed I had downloaded the BD rips of the Tenchi Muyo in Love movies so I figured I'd give them a watch.They were.. okay. The first was really nice and atmospheric but the climax did feel a bit... backed into a corner and then deus ex machina.The second I think was a stronger narrative (and fitting to the title) and it was nice to see Ayeka and Ryoko forced to get along and work together towards a goal.All in all, just hearing the characters' voices again felt like vising old friends and any flaws of the stories didn't stop me from enjoying my time.

After that they take a dive, and this is coming from someone that enjoys the next three OVA seasons.Dual! Parallel Crisis Adventure is great, it's like Evangelion filtered through Tenchi, really fun, and has lore relevance down the line.GXP is good too, and if you liked it you should read the LNs that expand and continue where the anime left off.Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari is the best thing Kajishima has produced since the old OVAs, it's great, even if it takes long enough for the plot to kick in.Watch order isOVA 1&2, Dual!, OVA 3 and GXP are interchangable, Isekai, OVA 4, 5, and the GXP OVA, and Paradise Wars which we're still waiting on.For the non-canon stuff-Universe is fantastic, universally enjoyed no pun intended.Everything else is mediocre at best.Pretty Sammy is worth a watch if you especially like Sasami or Mahou Shoujo. The rest isn't worth your time.
Oh, I know we're talking specifically about the anime stuff here, but the Tenchi manga is actually pretty good as well.

Back in the 90s anime dub studios for some reason decided to re-record the opening and ending songs of most anime.
