MangaDex used to have a feature that showed the most-viewed chapters from the last 6 hours, 24 hours, and week. It was great for discovering what was currently hot or what just updated. They removed it after the DDOS rebuild and haven't brought it back.

Current "trending" or "popular" features on most sites don't cut it - they barely update, show the same 10-20 manga for weeks, and it's unclear how they're even calculated or what timeframe they cover.

I'm thinking of building a site that brings back time-based chapter rankings (6h/24h/7d/30d), but it would require installing a browser extension or Mihon plugin that anonymously tracks what chapters you read and reports view counts.

The site itself wouldn't host manga or have a reader - just chapter lists with popularity metrics. That's it.
Questions:

Did anyone else actually use and miss MangaDex's top chapters feature?
Would you install an extension or Mihon plugin to make this work?
What else would need to be on the site for you to actually use it, or is just the ranking enough?

Ain't me for sure.

The only reason you care about what's hot and trending is you're a donation-begging scanlator with a sick mom.

I wouldn't use it but I could see it being useful for some.

I just use 4chan to determine what's good
>>
No, I reverse sort by popularity to find new manga.

I stopped regukarly going to manga sites every day when OneManga died. Now I just find manga that sounds like it'd appeal to me on wikipedia and tvtropes amd punch "read MANGANAME online free" into a non-megacorp search engine and click through the results till I find one that isn't completely hamstrung by my adblockers

Sounds like it became a liability for them. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they ran afoul of spammers trying to promote a title, or by a schizo who decided to attack the site because something he hated got too popular.

Same. Turns out everything is bad. Saves me a lot of time.

sidenote:
since asking for recs here is ban-worthy, how are you even supposed to find similar manga?
I usually just read other works from mangaka I like but it is pretty hit or miss

Same author, same tags, same scan group

It's only ban-worthy if it's thread asking for recs (the report category doesn't even exist for non-OP posts)
You can usually ask for similar series in an existing thread and get good answers.
