I hate how romanticized this relationship isHe may have regretted it in the end, but Kaworu tricked and used Shinji to get what he wanted, mentally and emotionally destroying him in the process
>>285224827The reason why this relationship is so idealized is because Kaworu is archetypally Satan from Devilman. And therefor he mirrors many other characters as an archetype. You can not really understand the thematic depth of their relationship without understanding the historic reality of the archetypes evolution.

Who were the angels and what did they want?
>>285224914Play the PS2 game.It's not worth it.
>>285224827Oh absolutely it shouldn't be romanticized. Not only did Kaworu trick and manipulate Shinji, it's technically grooming since the power and age gap between them is considerable. Kaworu is a being of godlike power older than the stars. He's not some cute uwu yaoi boy who has a beautiful crush on Shinji, he's functionally a god and views humans as a lesser class of life.Of course, some of us are into that sort of power dominance/manipulation, and Shinij makes a great helpless plaything, so it's still pretty hot, just not hot in the way a lot of its supporters think it is.
>>285224827He didn't use Shinji. By the time they got along he'd already infiltrated NERV. He could've launched an attack any time he wanted without having to trick Shinji.>>285224914Eva is one of those where the more material it gets, the worse it becomes. Supplementary, reboot, everything. Even DC changes, which are the few exceptions (and EoE, which is a mixed bag), are not all for the better. Episode 24 DC arguably became less interesting with all the new scenes.
>>285224827Shinji is the worse one in the relationship and just the worse person in general
>>285224827I wouldn't go that far, but in general the relationship is very sanitized, for lack of a better word, in post-series stuff. the ambiguity and sort of, i don't know, otherworldliness gets lost. >>285225306that goes for a lot of series i think, but it's very pronounced with eva because of how good and how tightly paced the original show is
>>285224914Humans weren't supposed to exist, impact was supposed to happen without any interference, angels are alien race that terraforms and colonizes this way
>>285224914>>285224930>>285226032Even with all the regular bullshit in Eva, it honestly feels like you can't explain the FAR and all THAT bullshit without looking like this.
>>285226179they're just ancient aliens, it's not that weird.
>>285224827that's kinda missing the pointkaworu was the embodiment of shinji's unreakistic expectations, a perfect saint that accepted and loved him unconditionally and uncritically no matter what he did. But humans don't work like that, only an alien would. By killing Kaworu Shinji is plunged once more into the realm of human interaction where hurting people pushes them away
>>285226471If you think about it, Kaworu is kind of a Bad End for Shinji because he would ultimately have stunted Shinji's growth. Like, imagine if Kaworu had whisked Shinji away from Tokyo-3 into some perfect existence. It would have prevented Shinji from growing up and coming to terms with the difficulties of other people. He would have been trapped in an infantile state, almost.
>>285224827>Kaworu tricked and used Shinji to get what he wantedno
>>285224870>Kaworu is archetypally Satan from Devilman. And therefor he mirrors many other characters as an archetype.he's a jealous bitch?
>>285226471>By killing Kaworu Shinji is plunged once more into the realm of human interaction where hurting people pushes them awayShinji's issue never was others, it was always himself. You can see from the very episodes that he had no issue overcoming hurting and being hurt with his relationships with Toji and Rei. The whole hedgehog dilemma thing is about him and his father wanting to connect by being unable to figure it out.By killing Kaworu, Shinji is having even more issues with accepting himself.
>>285224827>>285224884Anno was a fool to throw Mari into the mix instead of reviving Kaoru as a (human?) girl.
