Given the prologue scene in the first episode, I thought the ALA would just be like the Twelve Monkeys—an organization that did not want to hurt anyone, just disrupt the meat industry, animal experimentation and zoos.But the ALA are waging a bombing campaign against upscale steak houses which is idiotic. They remind me of the real-life Symbionese Liberation Front, who were a group with muddled politics and brain-dead leadership.Thing is, what little we've seen from the ALA leaders depicts them as stable individuals.
I think that when the blond haired guy started talking about minorities and that we can't say Merry Christmas anymore was, easily, the cringiest moment I have ever seen in anime. It's worse than all other unintentional cringy moments, because at least those were done due to genuine effort or the lack of it. This cringe moment was specifically produced by a mangaka who thinks he's not like all the other Japanese, who probably considers himself an expert on American culture and thinks he's better than all the silly shonen mangaka. He produces "deep thinking manga for thinkers" and he fancies himself up there with other "greats" like Yukimura or Urasawa.And despite all this pandering and all these delusions, he would be laughed at and considered a racist by all the Westerners he tries to pander to.

I really hope all the antagonists in this show aren't always going to be comically stupid assholes who don't even get to defend their beliefs properly. The talk of pandering to minorities was also stupid considering vegans aren't even considered a minority in the way they were talking about it. It's like the show wants to be about racism but it isn't, so it just comes across as someone bringing up unrelated things for no reason. At least the cop has a legitimate reason to be upset and scared of Charlie, but I'm sure he'll do a bunch of insanely stupid shit eventually just so we know for sure he's in the wrong.
