Why did battle seinen never really take off as a genre compared to its shonen counterpart?
>>285240787because kids like those genres the most, and shonen target kids especially
>>285240824I'm not sure, but I think you misunderstood the question
>>285240787Too cynical and unfun. That's not to say battle seinen can't be entertaining or fun, but a lot of them are edge for the sake of edge, relying solely on shock value and subversion.

>>285240912No, he didn't. Children like that genre more than adults, so it's more popular with genre. Moreover, the main staples of "battle shounen" (which is a vague, meaningless term) would generally be power systems and power levels in general, which you can get regardless of what the demographic is. That is, for a "battle seinen" to even exist, it needs to cover more mature themes while also having the things people read these stories for - power systems and good fights - so there's basically no incentive to write or read this over a regular shounen. Like, Tokyo Ghoul is good because of its themes, not its fights. If you want better fights, abilities, whatever, you'd just read whatever crap runs in jump. However, a lot of isekai are seinen and feature lots of fights, so you can get your fix there. I think you are specifically asking why edgy battle manga are rare; they are rare because most people who want to see a good fight don't want to see misery porn and edgeshit, this even applies to western media where most action movies aren't that dark, and people who want similar stories but with more violence, sex, etc just watch horror.
>>285241888Dude, battle manga in JUMP is mostly consumed by boys & men mostly prefer watching "shit explodes or dies on screen" the movie. It's a 2+2. It's like none of you live in the real world. The fault is in the medium, because a regular dude doesn't want to neither read some gay ass subtitles or listen to a cringe as fuck dub and these have been the only two options since the beginning of time. IF you talk only about Japanese men, most of them just work till they die and often will have no time to even fuck their wife, mind a hobby (maybe someone watches it on a train). NEETS are an extremely small & irrelevant minority and will watch everything regardless, so they do not matter.
>>285240787Elfen Lied is pure garbage, why would it take off? I seriously remember when /a/ largely considered it complete dog shit. Like it has nothing going for it other than excessive gore.
I prefer battle shojo.
>>285240787Because the fights suck.
>>285241888>"battle shounen" (which is a vague, meaningless term)it means shonen with battles you pseud, how is that vague and meaningless? it distinguishes it from other shonen which aren't based on fights
