Way disappointed with this. Great animation throughout, but what was that story even? Everything happens so fast. Tetsuo’s descent into madness/powertrip, the spy infiltration, the “romance” between Kaneda and Kei, the military takeover, etc. And that ending was just nothing to me. It felt like it just happened.
>>285277149Nobody asked
zoomers shouldn't be allowed to watch anything before 2010
>>285277149look into the controversies regarding the Olympic stadium the climax took place in and what it had to do with disenfranchises Japanese youths. you can figure the rest out yourself
>>285277149It was rushed, even though it was directed by the author himself. They compressed several chapters of the manga into one, single movie, so obviously they left out a lot of explanations a lore points. The movie that inspired it (Blade Runner) is better though.
>>285277149Yeah the script is dogshit but it looks cool, take it or leave it
>>285277394Of course it looks cool, but it isn’t a vibes movie like Angel’s Egg.
>>285277149Read the Manga, it's much much bigger and longer. The movie is a highly compressed version of the manga story with a ton of stuff cut out to make it fit into a movie.
>>285277149read the manga, it isn't better, but it answers your questions
>>285278193>>285278243tfw Akira's gang actually used drug which was omitted in the anime
>>285277149Akira is one of the many anime movies that's just a heavily condensed adaptation but you wouldn't think so because it's treated like an original movie. Barely anyone actually gives a fuck about the story though, they watch Akira for the animation/spectacle and to say they've seen the one anime movie that even normalfags who hate anime will begrudgingly say is good and a classic.
>>285277561>it isn't a vibes movieit absolutely isaren't you tired of conforming to what business major politicians and megacorp CEO's demand of you to further their profits? Aren't you sick of neoliberals saying if you defend yourself you're the worst?Don't you just wanna go apeshit ?
>>285277149it's a nothingburger film.
>>285277149It's something with anime production from that era. It has pretty awful pacing because some sasuga scenes are too loong. So it doesn't feel like a movie but like a montage of cool clips
It's just copium to say that Akira isn't a good film, and I'm not even its biggest fan. In terms of a pure aesthetic experience it's incredibly intricate and worthwhile.
>>285278417This reads like sour grapes, you know what year it is from? Akira made big money, unlike Honneamise and the Patlabor movies.
>>285280330It's not good, sometimes visuals can hide the absence of meaning, sometimes visuals can give some vibes that redeem the lack of everything else, but Akira, after the first 20 minutes, is just pure violence and animated guro. Steamboy exists because nobody criticizes Akira hard enough
>>285277149It's a metaphor about not leaving your bros behind. Also it was super condensing of like half the manga. In the manga, rather than Akira ascending to a higher level and physical body "dying", he's actually within the pod in one piece and gets out and takes over the city or some shit. Like he's still basically "braindead" and acts like a vessel for an ascended being, but at least he becomes sort of a character.
