Kasumi at one point had evolved beyond his dad, but ever since the prisoners arc its felt like Orochi squeezed back out in front.

I suppose you could say that while Yujiro recognized Amanai was skilled at some point in the tourney if he joined he'd avoided doing a deathblow and lose the match. Maybe Yujiro didn't expect though Amanai begging the crowd for an end to the fight after he broke Doppo's leg and that just really riled up his gears.
