At the Goro tulpa dream chapter he already made up his mind. When Kamiki left the room, Aqua told Ruby that it was HER revenge the one that was over and when Miyako hugged him, he cried most likely because of remorse of leaving everything behind.The aftermath of his little gay encounter with Kamiki was Aqua finding and accepting that if he died for Ruby's security then it wasn't bad for him to die. Him finally finding a reason for his sacrifice
