>Creator stops being depressed
>All their work tends to suffer
Why is this always the case? Depressed Tomino shows are more fun to watch than happy wacky Tomino.
>>
>dude he was depressed!!!
Shut the fuck up retard.
>>
Brainlet how the fuck did they even walk on a steel beam when it's literally electrified?
>>
>>285290335
That's not accurate to how creativity and mental health works, you make way better work when you're doing well
Maybe you just have a fondness for the shit people write when they're depressed
>>
>>285290335
Depression isn't deep and doesn't make you interesting either.
Also, depression takes away from you any initiative or creativity.

Happy vs Depressed Tomino is a meme, the man is always unhinged in a good way.

Electricity doesn't even behave like that, Brave Man Road wouldn't work IRL. Electricity follows the path of least resistance which is through the beam, not going through a human body. Even if you hugged the electrified beam with all your might, the charge would bypass you and go down the beam because it's much more conductive than you are.

The reason electric fences work is because the person or animal touching them is standing on the ground, which electricity naturally seeks, so they become the path of least resistance to the ground. A person standing on an electrified beam is not grounded so the charge would bypass them. If they touched ground and the charge was strong enough the rubber shoe soles wouldn't help either.
>>
>>285293900
With the op image it could be two beam with insulating material in the middle.
>>
>>285293970
That would probably work, but it's way too convoluded. It sounds like nothing but as an excuse to use electricity.
It would be more efficient to have someone that simply shoot those that grab the bar.
>>
>>285293416
I prefer White Album
>>
>>285293900
with high enough voltage you could feasibly break the dielectric barrier of human skin and have it travel through your body and back onto the same wire
t. failed EE degree
>>
>>285293900
So you're saying if I jump and cling to an electric fence without touching the ground in the process it won't shock me
>>
>>285295175
Yes actually
>>
>>285295188
I'm not going to do anything with this information.
>>
>>285295175
well sure, you can also wear rubber boots and touch an electric fence and be fine as long as you don't touch anything else and complete a circuit with ground or a circuit with anything else

>le sad tomino
Nah
>>
>>285293900
There are two beams with an isolation between them.
Yes, hanging on a power line wouldn't hurt you, just like the birds perching on them. You'd feel pretty much nothing, beyond the currents from your natural AC capacitance.
If you then do a Tarzan and grab the next line before letting go of the other, you're toast.
Hope this clears it up.

making this post because it's extremely on topic: What's the verdict on this: Can Lightning / do Lightning abilities work inside of cars? From what I've gathered over the years; whether it works or desn't depends on the strength of the current. Also, reference material since I drew this (I don't want to call it depression) in a phase when I was not doing well. (As you may be able to tell it is also unfinished becuase of that). I would agree with the other anons, mental unwellness is a killer for any creative process. Case in point: Trying to write the happiest character of the story when you're not happy.

electricity is indiscernible from magic for most people, myself included.

Same for me with computers. If my computer does something inexplicable, I just assume I angered some spirit and am being punished. I can rationalize bad code or bugs with the idea that it's all just dark magic

Back to op point yeah I do miss when kaiji was gritty and people died
But it's fun now too I guess
Realistically, for the teenagers and young guys who started reading kaiji in the 90s when they couldn't find work, if they haven't killed themselves by now, they would also be living a pretty nice life high up in their careers with their families and disposable income and stuff, so the story would change with them really
>>
>>285298177
It was only really the first manga. Kaiji felt more like Morita compared to how he was in Dice/Bog arc. I also felt like Hyoudo was way more grounded as the old cruel man in the first two arcs, now he's purely comedy relief. Honestly, I think he went from a metaphor to a self insert for Fukumoto.
>young guys who started reading kaiji in the 90s when they couldn't find work
welp sounds like that today.

Bullshit. Ten, his best manga, ended in 2002. Akagi had its best years between 2002 and 2017. Strongest Man Kurosawa was 2002-2006.
>>
>>285306040
what's kurosawa now
yeah that's what i thought
>>
>>285306057
That'd still make the 00s his best years. Even then, we got Akagi and some Kaiji kino in the 10s.

Tomino's most interesting (and beloved) works tend to be the ones he made when he wasn't in a depression spiral, namely the initial Gundam works, Ideon (yes, Ideon), Dunbine, and Turn A.
Nobody really likes works like Brain Powerd, Victory Gundam, F91, etc., and you can say G-Reco is bad I guess, but still, to call him more 'interesting' when he's depressed is a bit dumb.
>>
>>285297100
If you've played it, the game inFamous briefly talks about how the main character works with cars- namely that he causes them to explode due to having a constant current running through him.
>>
>>285306328
wrong
>>
>>285306370
No, that was completely right actually.
The most discussed work of Tomino's various depression periods is probably Zambot 3, and that's a work Tomino basically disowned by saying he barely remembers it and doesn't like it (in the same book where he said Daitarn 3 is an ambitious work and has one of his favourite episodes).

>>
>>285306328
How documented is this depression spiral? I'm pretty sure he actually has bipolar disorder which is why each series in the early 80s had the opposite tone of the last, until I suspect he started taking meds around CCA.
>Nobody really likes works like Brain Powerd, Victory Gundam, F91, etc., and you can say G-Reco is bad I guess
Yeah, this is wrong. Victory and F91 were kinda bad but at the same time people do like them and their problems were essentially all on the production side. Dunbine discussion is confined to passing references like your own, usually in the context of it being "the first isekai", and Turn A was considered a boring meme until people finally gave it a chance a couple years back.
>>
>>285306040
I'm reading the Akagi manga now after having watched the anime in 2008 and it's hard to believe, but even Akagi falls victim to "the book is better than the movie". The additional characterisation and contrast Washizu gets with Akagi is great. I am actually enjoying the 250 chapter arc
>>
>>285310186
The 250 chapters arc is the best part of the manga by far imo. Would have been a pain to follow monthly but the batch read is so good. I actually read it 2 or 3 times.

Don't forget to read Ten afterwards though.
