Final ChapterPreviously: Ryota killed his brother?
Love won
>>285485517That it did.
:'(
Back to where it all began.
The end.Thank you to the anon who first starting dumping the chapters and to everyone that has been reading along. Let's all wish Natori-sensei good luck on whatever she does next.
>>285485919Is this normal ending or bad ending?
>>285486977Bittersweet. I'm sad that Chika didn't get to be with his Nii-cha, even in death. But he was at least able to give his brother a chance at a normal life. It's particularly sad that Ryota doesn't remember Chika. This little toddler was so wholly selfless that he was willing to be forgotten by the one he loved most to free him from the pain of longing, attachment, guilt, and regret. Chika was dealt such a bad hand. Abused, hated, feared, and unwanted for circumstances outside his control. But still he knew nothing but love.
mmmkay i guess. As is common with such stories the mystery at the start was unsatisfactorily answered and from then on nothing could ever live up to the tension built at the start.
>>285486977I'd have actually preferred for Hayato to join them both.
>>285485663>>285485692>>285485715Kind of kinky, not gonna lie.
>>285485817There were times when I thought the mangaka was winging it. But stuff like the baby toss scene ending up being a Sanzu River metaphor foreshadowing the ending make me think there was at least a rough plan. And I suspect some of the issues starting around the train are the result of being told to hurry up and finish. Kyoya had been there since the start, but his reintroduction was a bit awkward. And, based on the ending, Hayato was indeed intended to be as important to Ryota as he initially seemed, but he sort of got sidelined towards the end. That's also when the lore dumps happened. My guess is that the general information about the old ritual and curse were going to be more organically uncovered by Hayato, Kyoya, and possibly Shirono doing research to try and stop Chi.Anyway, the mangaka has said on twitter that there will be some sort of additional epilogue in the 4th volume. I'm not sure what it could entail since everything is pretty much wrapped up. And I don't know when the volume is coming out or if that epilogue will be officially translated.>>285489665For me, the mystery itself was fine. I was rarely able to predict what would happen, but I never felt like anything that did happen was bullshit that came out of nowhere.I think the biggest area for improvement is the pacing and letting things breathe a bit more. Like when Chi "infected" Ryota. Letting that body horror more gradually ramp up would have really let the despair and confusion stew.
>>285490886That was my general impression too. I don't know if the mangaka is unlucky that her manga keep being axed or she just sucks at pacing in general.
>>285485270Once I read a few early chapters I left this series until it was completed, because of the kind of story it was. Was it good? Worth reading to the end? Good ending an all that?
>>285485394Girl with freckles sure is cute
>>285491551This was her first serialization. She'd done some one shots before. And mangadex lists a cancelled jungle book manga. But I've never found even a single chapter of it., so I think it was cancelled before it even started.>>285492243I'm extremely biased, but I liked it a lot. The ending made m really sad, but it's better than what I was expecting. And I don't even think it's the bias talking saying it's worth reading, since it isn't that long.
>>285485919>>285485938eh.
Mangaka just posted this on twitter. I can't read Japanese but google tells me that it is Ryota calling Chi and saying that they should go home together.
>>285492634okay my heart broke a little
>>285485938Sold series. Short and to the point like horror should be
>>285492544Honestly I can't even call it that bad of an axing. She managed to stick the landing and wrap everything up well. Too many horror manga go on for way to goddamn long. A hundred goddamn chapters is absurd if things aren't episodic
>>285490886Will you post the epilogue when it comes out in English? Also, can you post the links to the author's Twitter page and any other page that she might have? Also, could you post the original link to the chapters? I had it bookmarked but now I lost it and I lost all my other links too. Shit.
>>285485331I stopped reading the manga after the train scene why was her mother was a monster too?
>>285493548She and her family got into a nasty car crash. Chi found and remade them a little before he parasitized Ryota's mother
>>285493636thanks
>>285492599>>285492611>>285492634What if this is the epilogue? I got emotional after reading the second page where Chika smiles.
>>285493436Here is her twitter https://x.com/ayuminatori The manga is on mangaplus https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/titles/100397 but most of it is paywalledYou can find all the chapters archived here, though. https://desuarchive.org/a/search/subject/ryota%20killed%20his%20brother/>Will you post the epilogue when it comes out in English?I think this may be it >>285492599If it's not and there's enough for a thread, I'll definitely make one. If it's just a few pages I may just post them in that week's 801 thread since it seems like several anons there have been reading it and I don't know what other thread I'd post it in.
But could Chika and Tomie be friends? I think so!
>>285493260>>285493330Yeah, I never expected it would go on super long. It may have gotten rushed a bit towards the end. But I think she was able to mostly tell the story she intended to. And I am very satisfied with the ending.
>>285486977It's a trash ending. The entirely of the manga was about two brothers that loved each other and wanted to be always together even in death, so for one of them to casually return without memories of his bro who did everything for him feels like a kick in the balls.I would have preferred a confirmation that Ryota and Chika had passed on to the other side without any grudge, or at least that new versions of Ryota and Chika had been returned by the mass of tentacles (which was supposedly a manifestation of the original brothers from old Japan) with no memory of what had happened.
>>285494544>The entirely of the manga was about two brothers that loved each other and wanted to be always together even in deathJesus fucking Christ how the hell can you be so wrong about something so simple did you read the manga or just look at the pretty pictures
>>285494598The original Ryota and Chika died and became tentacles because Ryota didn't want Chika to leave him.Modern Ryota still had feelings for Chika even after the monstrous things he did, and continued to feel bad even in the middle of the ritual until he remembered all that happened.Chika did all these horrible things because he wanted to be with Ryota, and even in this final chapter he loved his bro so much that he departed to afterlife alone just to give modern Ryota a chance of having a normal life.Them being together, either in life or in death, would have been better than the ending we got (specially for poor Chika).
>>285494544Their mutual unwillingness to let go was hurting them. Just look at what you're suggesting as a preferable alternative; them both dying in what would effectively be a suicide pact. And I get it. That's what I was expecting to happen, I was OK with that, and when that didn't happen it was a gut punch. But in the end, this is better. One of them gets to live. One of them gets to be happy. It's not fair. Nothing about their lives was fair. But this is at least making the most out of a bad situation. Chi had to suffer and die alone bearing the totality of their previously shared burden. But don't you think he'd see that as worth it to give Ryota a chance at life? It's precisely because he loves Ryota so much that Chika was able and willing to let go of him.And they will eventually be reunited anyway. That's what I take these pages to represent >>285492599
>>285494955Nah, I'll be forever angry at this manga for essentially being the continuous torture and punishment of a toddler who was never really at fault and who not even once got a chance to be happy. In my opinion, Chika deserved to be revived even more than Ryota, or to at least be together with him in some way.I'm the eldest brother in my family, so seeing the lil bro end alone hit me specially hard.
>>285495224>Chika deserved to be revived even more than Ryota, or to at least be together with him in some way.I agree with this. And I think the mangaka would agree with this too, hence why she wrote him to be the most pure hearted and good character in the entire manga. But he and Ryota also both deserved not to be born in a war torn, cursed hellhole or to be abandoned and betrayed by their parents. Shirono deserved not to be crushed and killed alongside her family. A great many people are denied the lives that they deserve. Ryota and Chika were grasping at a happiness that was forever beyond their reach. And in doing so were being driven apart and dragging even more innocent people into their suffering. It is deeply unjust that Chi had to be the one to sacrifice himself for everyone else's sake. And that's why he was the one to do it. Ryota was noble enough to be willing to die together with Chi. But not enough to let him go. His was a clinging love stuck in what ought to be. It was Chika's pure love, no longer bound by regret and self interest, that allowed him to see beyond to a better outcome for his brother. The best often suffer the most for others' happiness. You're not wrong to be upset at the unfairness of what happened to Chika. That's the point. It's a tragedy. But Chika's sacrifice gives meaning to the suffering. Through his selflessness he was able to buy his brother some happiness. And they will be together again. Chi won't be alone forever.
One last drawing.
>>285485938Thanks for dumping. The ending is serviceable, I guess.
>>285485394I didn't expect her to get a happy ending that's nice.
time to wait for what she makes next
>>285485938Thank you for the storytime, OP. It was one hell of a ride.
>>285498553I'm hoping she sticks with horror but leans more towards the trippy, psychological side of it. And I genuinely think she should embrace the half joking suggestion that I and a couple of other anons had for this becoming a pseudo-BL slice of life manga. I think that type of horror in that kind of story would play best towards her strengths.
