Modern type food is not unbelievable in the setting specifically because they have magic. Most of which is silly, near pointless, or just used for convinence. The vast majority of spells in the world are folk spells that scratch an itch on your back you cant reach or create flowers. Infact, many of the spells that frieren finds are specifically food-based. Such as turning grapes sour, turning a red apple green, or creating the thousand folded shaved ice desert from glorious nihhoneese land of the rising sun. And again, most of these spells were not made by "mages" at the top of the magic academies. They were made by housewives or bored farmers or kids trying to create toys for themselves to play with. It's absolutely believable that chefs specifically would create magic that makes specialized ingredients that can be used for complex meals and deserts
